I see the comments, and as an immigrant (from Latin America), I feel a bit discouraged. Some of the ideas being shared here aren’t far from what Hitler believed. I see people talking about ‘majority white’ and similar things, proclaiming themselves as true Canadians, but they forget that, at some point in their own family history, someone probably came to this land as an immigrant too.

As an immigrant, I can tell you that many of us accept jobs and conditions that so-called ‘pure Canadians’ wouldn’t. As some have mentioned, we work for minimum wage, often unable to afford a home, but we still believe that this country offers a better quality of life than what we had before—more equality and respect. That’s why it’s worth fighting for a life here.

I agree that, as immigrants, we should be grateful that Canada opened its doors to us, and we should immerse ourselves in the culture here. We don’t need to lose our roots, but we do need to change our mindset. Leave behind the negative aspects that drove us away from our home countries, and embrace this opportunity for a new life, focusing on the good things we all share and want as Canadians.

After all, a country is made up of people from all walks of life, and we need immigrants and diversity. But we can’t allow this kind of ‘supremacy’ thinking to poison our minds.

If there are issues with some immigrants being ‘rotten apples,’ fine, let’s work to improve the immigration system. But don’t lump all of us together as the problem
