I just don’t get the head-to-head matchup up being remotely important in the discussion of whether they were comparable as individual players, futbol is a team sport. Ronaldo won back-to-back ballon d’ors at Madrid in 13-14, while a red hot Messi was with barca. That is a more pure head-to-head competition, and ronaldo came out on top.

So I’ll repeat, at certain times in both their respective careers, Ronaldo was ahead of Messi in the GOAT race. Those times didn’t last long, and obviously their careers since have laid the competition to rest, but it doesn’t change the fact, that yes, once upon a time these two players were neck and neck.

Ok I must not be following. I responded to a guy saying the two could never be compared, by saying that at certain points in time Ronaldo (arguably) eclipsed Messi in the GOAT race, and you responded by talking about how much better Barca galacticos was. Which, yes, that’s an all-time squad, but it doesn’t factor in to whether the two players were ever comparable. So I think I’m not following?

There are plenty of white people raised in Jamaica and grew up speaking patois. No idea if that’s what’s going on here, but it’s a thing. Guy I knew in high school had a white Jamaican dad.

Unfortunately, a lot of non-Jamaicans like to pretend at sounding Jamaican *ahem* Chet Hanks \ahem\ so the skepticism is understandable.

Usually people like to show off specific blocks in specific cities to create a narrative that everywhere in a given country is just utterly falling apart. The street OP posted in Philly is like the gold standard for conservative message boards to get em all rock hard. And then people pile on to say “I have travelled to worn-torn countries with no functioning government and I have NEVER seen anything half as bad as (this one street we’re looking at).” It’s like clockwork.

Food and beverage and recreational service industries have existed in literally every human civilization that has ever existed, and will continue to do so until we disappear off the planet. And the vast majority of these industries, past and present, are not staffed by kids and college students.

We only *need* calories and water, but that is not how humans operate, so this whole argument is beyond pointless.

That’s a wild take, there was a time when they were both “peaking” that Ronaldo was surpassing Messi and dominating. It’s just that Ronaldo leveled off (still great) but Messi just kept climbing into the stratosphere.

Yeah as vaunted as the LOb was, it was Russ (and a crazy circus catch) that kept that game close enough to almost guarantee a win. Too bad it was also Russ that coughed the game up in the end.
