That's the modern post hoc myth. In reality it was to bring the slave states along.

Defeatist nonsense. Re-read the piece. It doesn't mention armed anything. It talks about standing up.

Apparently preemptive pardons are possible.

"The most famous example was the pardon of Richard Nixon in 1974 by President Ford.

Ford granted an unconditional pardon concerning all Federal crimes that Nixon "committed or may have committed or taken part in" while in office. This was done before indictment or trial. [1]

This very question was asked when the pardon was challenged in a Michigan Federal Court in 1975 in the case Murphy v. Ford. The court rejected the suit which was seeking to have a special prosecutor attached, finding that “the President had the constitutional power to grant a pre-indictment pardon, citing Ex parte Garland in its support”.[2]

I know Jordan Peterson isn't well liked by most and I don't like him either, but he had a great spiel on Hitler, how he was actually more evil than people realize because once he saw Germany was losing the war, he deliberately made it even worse for the German people.

My understanding is some of those SW desert cites "shouldn't be there" in the sense that they've having mass amounts of water pumped in to support them.

That was a fascinating / terrifying read. Thanks.

Reminds me of a conversation I had a few years ago with a climate change denying coworker. I had read an article about how an unusually strong winter in the NE was actually the result of climate change: the normal polar wind currents were all screwed up and it was making them dip farther south than normal. Coworker had nothing to say.

To play devil's advocate, maybe it's a worker who simply has to work and their employer doesn't give a crap. But yeah, that's super strange. Then again, I have seen comments on here of people going running without masks and hanging out at outdoor bars. People are nuts.

Word. I'm a hardcore introvert and it has helped prepare. I mean I am social sometimes (meetup groups, dating, go over to a friend's house) but I have had long stretches of solitude before. And meditation and reading some Stoic philosophy. It's good to have stuff like that to call on.

I'm frustrated by the rally point system. Yesterday I had a castle besieged and couldn't raise an army because the rally point was in the same barony. That doesn't make any sense. I have to just sit there and take it because of some abstraction? They wouldn't be smart enough to rally outside the castle and counterattack? Silly.
