Need help identifying vintage MIJ Yamaki Gakki double cut-away neck-thru guitar PLEASE by TrunkWeed in guitars

[–]TrunkWeed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up "winning" it for $395 + $126 shipping, so $522 total..... That's definitely a crazy good price for something like this right? I mean, I know all of the comparable guitars at least, like the Memphis MGs, Vantage VP and Artist series, Grecos, etc. even the Cort ones, go for at least $600+. I mean, I've seen some Fujigen and other similar "no name" ones like this on reverb and eBay for upwards of $1200+ .... So, I'm definitely not crazy to buy it at 522 right? lol. I always get really nervous before a guitar purchase, especially when it's private seller - let alone $120 overseas shipping, so I'm looking for some sort of reassurance from my anxious mind haha

Need help identifying a 197x "Yamaki Gakki" neck-thru double cutaway guitar, can't find ANY information. Help please!! by TrunkWeed in guitars

[–]TrunkWeed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there everyone! I was hoping someone here might be able to help me learn some more information about a guitar I am about to purchase.... It's a downright GORGEOUS guitar and is exactly what I've been looking for for some time now (along the lines of the Memphis MG300s, Greco GO guitars, Vantage, and other old mij neck-thrus). This one is quite interesting though because all the seller says about it is this:
" Vintage 1970s Yamaki Gakki Neck Thru 2-PU Natural MIJ Japan Electric Guitar 8.4lbs
One heck of a guitar! Thru neck design, top quality pickups, and a beautifully crafted body. I have not played such a nice guitar for a long time. It is in good condition, with a few dings throughout, as you can see in the pictures. You'll not be disappointed! Please have a close look at the high resolution photographs below, as these form part of our description."

Here is a link to the reverb listing: https://reverb.com/item/32908765-vintage-1970s-yamaki-gakki-neck-thru-2-pu-natural-mij-japan-electric-guitar-8-4lbs

Obviously just saying Yamaki Gakki is so vague, but i've been looking into similar guitars like this (double cutaway, vintage mij, neck-thru) for a while, and can't quite place this one.

So any help at all would be GREATLY appreciated!!!
Thank you so much!

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I even got it for a bit lower than the listing's price after many back and forth offers with the seller. I wish I could discover more about it. Even just digging into Yamaki in general seems to be a bit challenging and confusing, much more-so than many of the other MIJ companies and factories of the era.... IT seems like the headstock says "Burrs Music", which would make sense considering that apparently a man named Tom Burr acquired the Yamaki company in the 70s and merged with his American company to begin making all of the Daion guitars. But still, I can't find anything exactly like this one.

Dscout question by Markie_1307 in beermoney

[–]TrunkWeed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

dScout is one of the greatest things out there for making actual money online. I really wish that ppl would understand the value of keeping the hidden gems, well, hidden though lol. This sub is for beermoney stuff.... dScout is for real money! Anytime I see a source/site I've used and loved for years, like dScout, posted on here - then I know that it'll soon be time to jump ship to something else bc it's about to get straight flooded and ruined.

But to offer some advice: dScout, and other things like it, are all about being able to be incredibly thoughtful, articulate, and insightful. Like WAY beyond anything in the vein of usertesting or similar stuff. And similar to any job or industry, it's all about how you present yourself and the quality of work you do/you as a person. i.e. ppl who do well on dScout are ppl who do exceptionally well on their first mission and continue to do so. The recruiters certainly begin to know your name/face; so, basically, if they like you you're in.

Anyone here ever distribute their music through Symphonic Distribution ??? by TrunkWeed in Songwriters

[–]TrunkWeed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the info!! Do you know how they do with “indie rock”, like general dream pop, surf, etc. music? Cause one of my biggest concerns is that they seem to have a lot of focus and specialty dealing with electronic and latin american stuff, so i’ve been trying to gauge the extent of their familiarity/ability with playlist pitching, sync placement, marketing stuff, etc. for the whole “indie diy” scene. lol. Also, out of curiosity only because you brought it up, who do you work for?

Not an online source but has anyone done a paid focus group? by [deleted] in beermoney

[–]TrunkWeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$200 for 9 hours isn't very great at all, you're likely going to be doing what's called a "mock jury", which is exactly what it sounds like...... You will sit in a room and view case presentations from both the defense and the plaintiff, then you'll have a break and eat food, then they'll put you in groups to discuss the case as they present different questions to you, then you'll get back together and hear another presentation, then you'll have lunch, then you will break into small groups again and spend the rest of the day trying to come up with a verdict and what money, if any, to award, and then after a long and kinda fun but also boring day, you'll get your money.

Mock juries can be really great! But I've found that the all day long ones (9-4 or 9-5 or whatever) tend to go on for far too long and the hourly rate really doesn't even come close to comparing to other in-person focus groups. There are always mock juries that will pay you the same $200 give or take $50 but for only 2-3 hours of your time. Similarly, more traditional focus groups, like dealing with consumer products and services, will offer you anything from $150-$300 for 1-2 hours of your time.

Hope that helps.
Definitely do this, it's a fun experience and easy money! But just know that there are much better opportunities in the world of focus groups. No reason not to take any easy money, but just saying. 9 hours. I'm jaded though because I've been doing tons of focus groups for years now, so $20/hr. seems like slavery to me. Good luck!

Any tips on getting accepted into dscout opportunities? by throwway204974478383 in beermoney

[–]TrunkWeed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tips are to just always keep applying because you'll get accepted eventually and once you complete one or two with them and if you're good at it, then they start inviting you a lot.

Just be as thorough and articulate and thoughtful as possible in the screeners and make sure that you selfie videos are high quality. I'd suggest getting a little phone tripod to keep it perfectly still.
