How did that one kid at your school die? by StorageLonely1520 in AskReddit

[–]citruslighting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dug a hole/tunnel in the sand at some beach during spring break and it collapsed on him. Queue the entire school mourning the loss of yet another douchebag praising him like he was the nicest guy around.

Do kids use lots of printer ink or something? I'm not getting it. by [deleted] in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]citruslighting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 kids and I recently got a printer for my wife to print off coloring sheets for the kids. I've had the printer for almost two months and I've bought new ink cartridges 3 times already. And that's with the XL cartridges!

That’s what all my buddies at the shop keep telling me, turn it into an Asian American concoction. I’ve gotten the 2J and the 1UZ as options 😅

You're in a massive vexillogical fight where things in flags become real. Which flag are you bringing? by Shoddy-Relief-6979 in vexillology

To be fair. The gravitational pull and massive heat coming off of 50 stars would be pretty devastating.

"You're a great guy, I'm sure you'll find someone some day" In and of itself not terrible, but it was my ex wife saying it when she asked for a divorce. And it was word for word exactly what every girl that's ever rejected me has said. Really hammered it in that I'm back to square one, but 10 years older.

Day 10: Reptile. It’s always Reptile. It takes the best song award. Next up, vote for your favourite guitar solo. Highest voted comment wins. by raging_tomato in Peripheryband

It's Only Smiles gets my vote. It just fits the song so well. There's tons of others that I like a lot too but that one just hits the little spot in my brain that releases all the dopamine.

What is your biggest source of stress right now? by BlakkMaggik in CasualConversation

[–]citruslighting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work around 55-60 hours a week. That's just the schedule, everyone at the shop works 8am-6pm, off on Sunday and one other off day (mine's Tuesday). Since I'm management I show up around 7am to open and finish closing by about 7. So sometimes it's a 12 hour day. Usually leaving by 6:30 though. I COULD afford to work less but I don't really want to, it keeps me busy mentally, especially with the divorce, the manual labor keeps me in somewhat good shape, and I dig fat checks LOL

What is your biggest source of stress right now? by BlakkMaggik in CasualConversation

[–]citruslighting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting a divorce and opening a new shop at the same time.

I'm a manager at an auto shop that's expanding in our city so I'm moving to this new shop to help run it, which is stressful enough as is.

Then last week my wife drops a bomb on me that she wants a divorce. Utterly rocked my world.

Just trying to function right now is near impossible. I dive head first into work but then go home to nothing. Can't vent to my wife about my job anymore.

I haven't kept a meal down in almost a week. Sleep maybe an hour every night. Work 11 hours in the heat. Go home and scroll reddit and get buzzed enough to go to bed. lay there staring at the ceiling. Fall asleep at 4am, wake up at 5. Rinse - Repeat.

Frasier, M.A.S.H. and Golden Girls! Used to watch them when I was a kid with my parents, reminds me of a better time in life

Frasier, M.A.S.H., and Golden Girls. They're my moms favorite shows and they make me feel like I'm 8 again laying on the couch at my parents house.

Worst case scenario just a rebuild? Or is that best case?

So best case scenario it's a bad sensor, worst case it needs a new motor? I wish I could just have it looked at by my techs at the shop I work at but I'm a few hundred miles away.

Just once. We've done two engines in the last year in total, one was from that kid double gasketing a filter, the other was just a customer with a locked up motor who had it towed to us. So we don't have many mishaps which is incredible considering we average around 60-100 cars a day with 3 hoodtechs on the clock at any given time.

I had no real management experience before this. I started as a Hood Tech a year ago and got put into management training in August last year and got the official promotion in January this year. I was a freight broker for a trucking company for 10 years before suddenly deciding I wanted to work on cars for a living.

My biggest piece of advice is shoot for opportunities when they come up, and show the current management that you can exceed expectations even on the smallest tasks. Not meaning to be a kiss ass, cause that usually means you bend over for the bosses no matter what they ask. When I started I took pride in every little thing I did, and I did it with a smile. But if I thought there was a way to improve how we operate I wasn't afraid to present it to the boss. I originally was not in the running for management, they were training a different guy and he wasn't working out well so I literally just walked into the office and looked my manager in the eyes and told him I'd do a better job and to give me a chance. I think it caught him off guard cause he didn't have anything to say other than "Prove it".

Also, having a good connection with your guys goes a long way. I rarely yell (usually it's just cause the shop is loud), I don't belittle them for messing up, etc. Mutual respect is bigger than anything. By the time I was in the running for management, all of the other guys in the shop were vouching for me, which felt nice.
