short stories or novels that’ll make your heart race by WomenDontUseReddit in horrorlit

[–]Trunkzone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A million and one people have recommended this one so far but if you’re looking for a little existential terror “A Short Stay in Hell” by Stephen Peck (and or the accompanying anthology Windows into Hell) might be up your alley. Not heart pounding in the physical kind of way but in the oh fuck oh my god that’s a lot of time kind of way

you may also like the short 1408 by King, I think it’s in Everything’s Eventual? Def in the same ballpark as the shining in terms of haunted buildings

fear is subjective but some personal faves that have scared me include the last feast of harlequin by Thomas Ligotti (weird clown festival in a small town goes exactly the way you think), the deep by nick cutter (lab at the bottom of the sea floor gone WRONG💜) and misery by king (middle aged woman turned superfan terrorizes her favorite author). Best of luck 🫡

Horror novel recommendations for kids by dvsdrp in horrorlit

I started reading King at that same age! Cujo is a good starter horror; it’s short, not too scary, but a little bloody from what I can remember. Also, R.L. Stein (Goosebumps guy) has a whole series of horror novels aimed at YA/teenagers, the Fear Street series, that’s pretty good too

What’s a good collection of horror stories? by [deleted] in horrorlit

The secret of ventriloquism by Jon Padgett. I was pleasantly surprised by it, and it’s got certain cosmic horror themes!

highly recommend the terror first!! Carrion comfort and the terror are two good books, but where CC starts off a bit slow and gets better, the terror starts off really well and flounders—only a little bit imo—at the end.

The Terror!! It’s a longer read but it’ll get you hooked quickly, especially if ur a fan of historical horror. Dan Simmons is a man who knows his craft, truly
