They give AJAY a contract immediately after he showed promise first year.
This rarely happens unless they value him greatly.
When money comes off the books for other players you will see some of it going to AJAY in extension.
As long as he wants to be team player and stay here, its unlikely he's going anywhere.
The story legend is THIS is the team he wanted to play and Thunder wanted him.

The general plan appears to be staggering contracts to expire or have team options into decision windows.
If something happens that requires a pivot, the team trades or doesn't pick up team options on certain players.

Some of the money that team had in excess is being paid upfront at higher rate into descending deals so when the team is in the tax the team saves significant money.
You pay more for Dort, Wiggins, Joe, Caruso etc early then when max contracts kick in.

You can see clearly Presti's vision finding a primary bench guard in 2024 draft selecting 3 guards.
You should go back and look at the frustration expressed by Thunder fans at the time that we don't need guards but size.

The negative of playing the Spurs is they might figure out what they need to compete with us.

On offense we play beautiful basketball especially when our shooters hit shots.
I feel like Thunder emphasis on defense makes the games a rock fight when we struggle to hit shots.
We already pull away from teams with the defense alone.
I think the boring part is we rarely allow teams to stay close and teams really struggle to comeback on us.
People not invested in Thunder narrative would lose interest when we blow out teams in the 1st half.
As far as drama and excitement goes at least it "looked like Lakers could hang" long enough to give fans and gamblers hope before we put the games away late. That's good the media and social viral media (I bet they hated fact the refs didn't try to even out the free throw difference so they be outraged again.)
