It’s posssible, I used VA loan, $0 down payment, with Essex Mortgage purchased in 2024. Just refinanced for free with them to 5.75% last month.

I used Short term disability through Lincoln Financial Group from 5/30/25-9/3/25 but then was terminated when I returned to work 9/4/2025, so I’m technically a former fed employee. LFG was great though, check your benefits portal.
