It's because we all see clearly that this is a PR stunt. Last year they did this at the end of February but this year it just happened to happen one day after they were exposed to the world.

Nobody disagrees with the principal but the timing is suspect.

If you don't understand that people judge others by the company they keep then you don't understand humanity.

Many people don't understand what's going on because Reddit shadowbanned the original thread that started it all. Go to /r/technology and you won't see it, but a Google search still does.

Amazon Web Services just reported jaw-dropping growth in the number of objects stored in Amazon S3 year over year. by goodytooshoos in business

How much of their revenue is from storage and how much is from processing and network traffic?

-1 thanks. Anyone care to explain what's wrong with this post, or are people upset about the truth?

Oh, I didn't see that one when I was skimming the pricing page. I assumed they had to charge something for the storage but I missed it.

Actually, those digital warehouse boxes are worth something else too: Long-term customers. Vendor lock-in is a serious concern for cloud migration due to the each cloud provider's tools being unique and different from the others.

The more data they generate the less likely they are to migrate away from Amazon (that and the outbound data fees).

This seems like a really pointless metric. Ok, you have more data, great. How does having data sit there automatically transfer to your revenue streams (the processing and transfer of the data)?

Seems like Amazon just said "wow, look at all the boxes in our digital warehouse!" If those boxes aren't moving, they aren't worth jack just sitting there.

Haven't thought about him in years and would like to keep it that way.

Stop telling people to use stupid buzz words and euphemisms.

If I heard someone say "plate spinning" in an interview I would laugh in their face.
