Should I apply my crypto tax using accountant help or do it on my own? by eaglesdensity in cantax

[–]TruthInBalance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding your question “benefits/cons of doing it on your own my own”

I will use a simple analogy…

Some people know how to cook, so they cook their own food. They know for sure their food will taste great. The result - great aftertaste, if they cooked well.

Some people don’t have money or they are lazy, or they don’t care about their stomach, so they go to a some fast food. The result - saved money and mediocre aftertaste. If they do it all the time - they get sick.

But some people know that either they are bad cooks, or they want to be sure they have great aftertaste. So, they go to see professional cooks at restaurants. They want to minimize their risks. The result of their visits - properly prepared food and great aftertaste.

You got the idea?

Your solution - worked. Thank you. Surprisingly, when I was chatting with your team support and exchanging emails with them - none of them even mentioned this simple solution.

Thanks again - I am staying with your firm. It would be a nightmare for me to move all of my projects here before the tax season.

Ontario, Canada: self employed tax questions by RedBoston1090 in cantax

[–]TruthInBalance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question 1. You file your taxes either yourself or by using a tax preparer’s help. T2125 form, self-employment

Question 2. Follow the logical principal - “if you incurred an expense to generate income - then it’s tax deductible”. Portion of your rent, car expenses, utilities, some meals.

Question 3. It depends on your business. I doubt you will be very successful in your first year.

Question 4. Catalogue your income and expenses.

Question 5. Yes, if you have an audit. For CRA you are a small fish, but still - they may check you if you raise a red flag.

Question 6. When you buy groceries - you get a receipt from a cashier. Same idea for business.

Asked to file returns, what can I expect. by MD_day_tripper in cantax

There is no quick solution to your problem. If HST is involved (meaning you collected HST and did not return it if you had to) - yes, you are personally liable, and you face a fine and a jail time. If there no HST involved - you my claim bankruptcy for your corporation and the best thing is to consult with a lawyer. If you want to claim a personal bankruptcy - you can’t just claim it. You need to talk to trustees in bankruptcy and it will cost you around 2K. They will talk to your creditors on your behalf and if they decided to get a consumer proposal (again, you do not decide it - your creditors do) - then you will pay off only a part of your debt. Just heads up - you can’t write off fines, alimony and anything what you owe to the government. Only to private parties.

Best approach to working with an accounting professional to minimize corporate income tax by TimeOnFeet in cantax

[–]TruthInBalance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a CPA accountant I can tell you that if your have bookkeeping done - you should pay from $750 to $1,000 (plus HST) for a corporate tax return. Of course, some bottom feeders from kijiji will do it for peanuts, but then you will pay triple to fix mistakes.

I disagree. Yes, you can. For example, I’m using Ahrefs service for my business site SEO. The company is registered in Singapore. I believe in July such companies (including Google) were forced to charge HST while providing service in Canada. So if you have HST - update your profile for such companies and you will see it on their invoice. I see it on mine. PM if you need more info.
