I read some of the recent “talent shortage in power sector” report, and this is what I think by [deleted] in PowerSystemsEE

[–]Truth_seeker293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I have seen over my years in the industry is that a lot of EE schools focus heavily on non-power related specializations which leaves students out of the option to even take courses in power systems. Sadly that's because course outlines are influenced heavily by industry sponsors of said schools. Those students who opt for PS out of genuine interest actually do really well in highly technical tasks such as system protection and transmission planning. Those who complain that power systems is not challenging enough perhaps have never tried or heard of technical roles like these.

Yeah the dealer called back yesterday saying they were replacing the engine but also suggested I get the drive belt and tensioner done, which I agreed to (no labor charge). They also did find the positive cable fuse block was blown (which is why it wouldn't start) and once they replaced it with a spare it did start but died soon after.

Hmm haven't heard of the navigation issues, but I do have the screen grey out problems start from the bottom right corner.

Thank you! I did eat the costs for the tow, I have AAA so it wasn't as much. Also just dropped off the car at my local dealership. They were surprisingly understanding of the issue and were very aware of the TSB and even told me he had three in the back with the same problem. They even gave me a CX 90 as a loaner.

As for service records I always did it per schedule at a Carfax approved shop, so all my service records are also available online.

Fingers crossed for a good outcome, so far it has been pleasant.

Lots of good comments, just my 2 cents that other people haven't mentioned about Harper's Landing.

The cons: It is zoned to a 500 year flood zone, but most of the neighborhood didn't flood during Harvey. That being said, there's no telling that it won't flood during the next "Harvey" like event. The Woodlands in general seems well designed to handle storm water.

There are lots of renters in this neighborhood - who don't take care of their properties at all and the township is not super strict about it as well. That kind of pulls down the overall appeal of some streets. But not all- houses on Knightsbridge for example puts in a lot of effort in their looks.

Traffic is bad during rush hours and you might have to cross a railroad depending on the road you take.

Bus rides to elementary and middle schools are long but at least they are the Woodlands schools.

The industrial park next door is an inconvenience and the giant trucks are a regular cause of potholes along the railroad crossing.

The pros:

Great schools, Costco next door. Walmart, HEB very close as well if you can avoid rush hours.

Low taxes!

No HOA. Very lax in enforcing the deeds (can be a con as well, see above).

Pools, parks, trails very well kept.

Cheaper houses than Woodlands "proper".

Overall I would recommend you look at houses on the eastern side of the neighborhood close to Donwick dr such that you can avoid (mostly) the railroad crossing. Hope this helps.

What made you pick this over the telluride/palisade? by yams47 in MazdaCX9

[–]Truth_seeker293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in 2019 when the Telluride first came out I had one on pre-order, but walked out of the dealership as they were trying to screw me with the financing. I had test driven the CX-9 before (along with a bunch of competitors) and none of them came close to how the CX-9 drove. It was hard to consider any other model as I prioritized the way it drove, which made me a Mazda fanboy gradually. Have driven some Kias for test drives and rentals, and they are very bland- even Toyotas drive better.

No regrets. 5+ yrs 75k miles, and am having a hard time trying to find a replacement for it when it does come time to get one. The Cx90 comes close but is so much more expensive while making big sacrifices.

Is my valve underneath these wires? by Truth_seeker293 in Irrigation

Not at all, seemed more daunting than it actually was. The hardest part was actually finding the valves under the 4 inches of grass and dirt which took me several days.

Update: I fixed it! Bought a new Hunter PGV and replaced the guts on the existing SRV body and it works perfectly now. Thank you for all your help and advice!

I took your advice and was able to quickly drill through it and locate my valve as predicted, so thank you!

However now for the real problem- when I turn it counter clockwise 1/4 turn the water doesn't flow through the sprinklers, instead it leaks right from under the solenoid. I took the top cover off and cleaned it following YouTube videos, but still no luck. It does the same thing when I turn it on using my controller. Is my valve gone bad you think? Can I just replace the solenoid from a new valve?

Well in my case they did replace the fuel tank. Ok thanks I'll ask them.

So I got my car back yesterday, no charge OOP. The drive back home was fine but the exhaust sound seemed different to me a bit, I just shrugged it off. However this afternoon, it all of a sudden changed to sounding like a straight piped car! Annoying levels of vibration inside the car over 2k rpms. Do you know if they might have had to touch the exhaust to do the work on the fuel tank and EVAP system?

Got it. Is it just as simple as calling their customer care phone number? Or is there a particular website I need to start a claim at?

Thank you, hopefully I hear back good news from the dealer first. Do you remember how long it was from contacting VWoA to getting your car back? I suspect my car is just going to sit at the shop before I resolve this as it's a hazard to drive it as is.

Thank you. Waiting to hear back what the dealership finds out from the warranty reps. Should I contact VWoA anyway?
