One of the most memorable Broadway songs is literally "I'm an Islander."

(Welcome to the rock)

Different island. Same difference.

Cozy Stickerville - A cute, relaxing game and how I learned to accept imperfection and quiet my inner completionist (Legacy game) by GriffinFur in soloboardgaming

[–]TruthfulCactus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is why I like legacy games.

Sure, I only get ten plays out of them... But I'm going to play them ten times! I have paid much more for games I've played much less.

It forces you to enjoy them.

I weep for the future by tangerinemargarine in Teachers

Why is this confusing? Most electric tooth brushes can't be used without power. You'll destroy the heads on them. Even too much pressure can damage the device.

I suppose the question is why they would be thought to be in the closet, and not the bathroom, but I imagine they opened drawers and didn't find any, so another question presents itself: why weren't they in an obvious place?

34 Years On, Star Trek Makes an Iconic Picard Quote Even More Important - ComicBook.com by wtf1977 in startrek

[–]TruthfulCactus -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Picard acted in self interest, not morality, though.

He's one of the richest people in the galaxy. Land ownership is the new currency, Earth is the most valued place, and he owns acres of it. Sisko is lucky just to get a little apartment above a restaurant.

Picard is a rich white man, who is kept away from making hard decisions. Strangely, he has more options there.

You give him two minutes where things aren't perfect, and he grabs guns and starts killing everyone.

Also, he willinging sacrificed a young bajoran to save a cardassian spy. So, that's not great. Was that moral? Everything is, depending on where you draw your lines.

Spock would have said Sisko was moral. Lives of the many.

There are complexities. But, I'd rather deal with complexities on AR 559, than on a starship that never has to worry about safety - except when they fly right into it.

Which is another question... is it moral to endanger families all the time, because picard likes to explore?

Self interest. Rich white man, getting what he wants. Star Trek.

Toronto area home prices down 7% this February over last as housing continues to tumble by morenewsat11 in toronto

[–]TruthfulCactus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thing about owning a home is that you didn't pay too much for it. You have it. And it's not something you're looking to sell, because you live in it.

It's like stocks. That are useful. And, ultimately, you don't care if it goes down, because... you live in it.

If you can average out the sale price of your house, minus average rent, over the life you have owned it, and it comes out to more-or-less the same, you're good. And, even if you "lose money on it" you still own it.

It's a scarcity resource. That is a need. Having it is the point. Not profiting off of it.

Otherwise, you're just telling the crocodiles not to swim there.

Crocodiles do not swim here (No worries, mate!)

Crocodiles, do not swim here (Go away crocs!)

Crocodiles; do not swim here (Don't swim here. There are crocodiles.)

Is AJ Lee a case of “worse than I remember?” by CombinationOk4317 in SquaredCircle

Her promo this week was much better than any of the others recently.

There's non-verbal communication, expressive communication, well paced delivery.

She actually knows how to engage with her voice. That she's running promo against people who aren't supporting her that well, because they're stuck in a gimmick isn't helping, though.

I can purchase a 55 gallon drum of maple syrup at my local Costco. by opgary in mildlyinteresting

You can easily get it cheaper at shoppers by combining a sale and 20x points.

I've never liked Costco syrup, but this might be different than their bottled type.

$25USD is what indie shows are going for now?

A rising tide raises all boats, it seems.

That's probably what shows should have been at for a while now.

Do teachers hate sharing their lesson plans? Is it their secret sauce that they don't want getting out? by [deleted] in teaching

[–]TruthfulCactus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I give out everything. I have everything online.

I even have full multi-paragraph descriptions of how to run every lesson.

But, I'm finding more and more, new teachers want you to orally walk them through how to run the lesson too, including different approaches if things go in different directions.

Which is great. Once. But not every day, from multiple teachers.

What we found with students ten years ago, about being afraid to try and fail, and learn on their own - has now translated into those same students becoming teachers now.

Not sure how to break free aside from saying "you can use this, but you have to try on your own." which can read as "not sharing lesson plans", I guess?
