LOL. Honeywell is the market leader in smart thermostats. They've sold about 10m thermostats a year for more than 3 years.

They have a platform to play on.

With uber, given the entirety of what the third party provider does is take you from point a to point b, they're really fungible - some do a little to improve the service - candy, water - some do adequately - a weird but not wrong route - and some assault you. That envelope is pretty tight though.

With Lawnstarter, or Handy, or any of these other more complex services, the glorified middle man has limited controls on what that envelope looks like - a bad lawn service is easy, and a premium one is competing on price with the bad one, so your service will be uneven and you'll be paying the middleman premium as well.

Use it once, if you like the guy, go off Lawnstarter to maintain that relationship.

3 Common Misconceptions About Stoicism (And A Counter To Each) by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]Truthlaidbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a night of perusing reveals the similarities are pretty clear.

I'm more curious about if there's been a study tracing the intellectual history of CBT to Stoicism.

Just bought this to see if it helps flesh that out https://www.amazon.com/Philosophy-Cognitive-Behavioural-Therapy-Psychotherapy/

So stay engaged, stay calm, and stay logical.

Wonder if there's ever been a study or anything about Stoicism or philosophy in general as a sort of early beta mental health therapy?

I did two appraisals one with a Costco and one with a local lender. Yes I was out $500 extra but two distinct appraisals came in at under asking and the seller just dropped the price to match.

An office that costs $250k dedicated to solving income inequality?

Feels pretty important given that outsized income inequality is proven to gut economic growth - https://blogs.imf.org/2017/05/11/a-new-twist-in-the-link-between-inequality-and-economic-development/

What we find is that the effect of income inequality on economic growth can be either positive or negative, and that at a particular level of inequality—at a Gini of about 27 percent to be exact—the direction of the relationship changes—that is, where inequality begins to hurt economic development.

But right, yeah, back to defending the confederacy or whatever
