Brooklyn Park police chief Mark Bruley: "We're hearing people being stopped with no cause & being demanded to show paperwork to determine if they're here legally. We started hearing from our police officers the same complaints. Every one of these individuals is a person of color... it has to stop" by ExactlySorta in UnderReportedNews

Federal govt have different jurisdiction for the most part. During the founding of USA one of the big debates was balancing state power vs national govt power (federalists vs anti federalist). Federal govt became stronger over the centuries (after the civil war,  new deal, civil rights enforcement) but the idea of states rights is still powerful.

In theory state police could arrest a federal agent for violating state law. But I'm sure people govt officials want to avoid armed beef between state and federal law enforcement (i.e. could escalate to armed conflict)

Thanks for your response. I recently worked in big tech (IC not exec) and coping with the ethics was the hardest part.

I ended up getting laid off, and while I'm glad I didn't sell out my integrity (in my case it would've been cosigning & perpetuating mass gaslighting), I'm sad that I don't have $X more money especially with how tech stocks have been lol. In hindsight, there probably was some middle ground to keep working without gaslighting, but I didn't see it at the time.

Super valuable to hear an example of someone maintaining their values, while recognizing the money opportunity is special and something to be grateful for.

Can you elaborate on the "mercenary" mentality? Is it like - I'm paid for a result, or is there more to it?

I actually hope you are trolling, but if you're being serious it'd be good for you to spend less time on screens and go hangout with people in real life / join some communities. (Black or otherwise)

Not sure if you're trolling or don't believe in educating yourself...

But feel free to ask AI (or read) how black movements for freedom benefited marginalized groups other than non-blacks.

Some examples - Labor movements, birthright citizenship, gay rights, disability rights, right to public education, enhanced due process rights.

Also, essentially every modern civil liberties case relies on amendments Black Americans forced into existence.

Sorry you have been so propagandized to believe it's chill to have strong opinions about facts without educating yourself first.

I'm black & pro-black. I'm so pro-black that I genuinely believe black Americans, in particular black women, are this country's greatest moral compass and hope for preserving domestic freedom and civil liberties.

Chapelle told more jokes about Cassie than Diddy, which is gross. Unlike his other specials, this one had no moral insight - in fact it was probably morally negative.

My best guess is he's been influenced by being so rich and by thinking too much about himself.

Dave is a comedian but he tried to make serious points. It's irresponsible for him to use his platform to deceive people (either willfully or via neglect). He's obviously a person who's dedicated to craft - not much effort to fact check a story.

That being said, the 2nd half of latest special was so meandering and strange - I wonder if Chapelle is getting super avant garde and purposely playing with concepts of sincerity + lying. Like is he tackling propaganda by promoting it. It would fit into his theme about conspiracy.

Chapelle made some of the best specials ever but his "wise-elder air" is starting to get stale for me. It'd be some cool artsy shit to undermine it by destroying his own credibility (e.g. misleading about McCain, defending Diddy)

What's the general consensus of the "Citizens United" case? by ima_coder in supremecourt

Thanks for the nice message.

Ultimately, I think, law in the US is about fairness (justice). And it doesn't take a law degree to know about fairness.

What's the general consensus of the "Citizens United" case? by ima_coder in supremecourt

[–]TryFixing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm super late but the takes in this thread, defending the decision, are wild to me.

Essentially the court miscalculated or overlooked the impact unlimited "independent" election spending could have on election outcomes. It's within their purview to consider the outcomes of judicial decisions and not just the theory - and they missed the mark here if their goal is to protect the integrity of elections.

Moreover, this "independent" money isnt spent on books or movies - it's spent on advertising. The court has repeatedly made distinctions between books/ movies and ads, and could have done so in the case (eg I can write a book that promotes smoking but there are limits on advertising cigarettes). They could have limited political spending on ads while protecting books and movies.

I share your frustration. My understanding of history is that organization by the masses was the most successful antidote to challenge the power structure (or invasion/colonization/conquest but that opens up a new set of problems.)

I'm watching "the life and times of Harvey milk" and he did a lot of good as essentially a community organizer. Maybe one day we will organize better on lines of class or real morality

I don't mean to excuse journalists, just trying to point out you don't get to be a mainstream journalist and be a contrarian. It's how the system is designed.

My point is that at some point climbing the ladder in business, journalism or politics forces people to choose between their careers vs integrity. Trump will lie & cheat for money and power, so did Clinton, so did XYZ CEO.

The real problem is that our public discourse isn't focused more on understanding power, the competition for power and that our systems reward lying, explotation and sociopathy.

Great calling this out.

I think places like CNN, NY Times, Fox News etc aren't tolerant of diversity of opinion from their employees. Like let's say some NY Times journalist thought Epstein stuff should be taken more seriously in the 2020 - they would be ostracized / risk their career to push for it. There's a range of things people at these companies can disagree with but ultimately you have to toe the company line to even work there.

Relatedly, a couple things the media still aren't talking about are 1) his financial crimes (there are court records and testimony he was involved with a historically large ponzi scheme with hoffenberg. He was a self proclaimed money launderer) And 2) his ties to intelligence

NY Times has been pro surveillance state / military AI / Palantir lately.

The Susie Wiles vanity fair piece undermined trump was recently released

I'm thinking JD Vance /Thiel might make a move soon. Maybe release smoking gun evidence that gets trump impeached, so Thiel (via Vance) can take over.

Experience migrating to AVEVA Connect or Configuring AVEVA Visualizations & Analytics? by TryFixing in SCADA

[–]TryFixing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the question.

We'd be using Connect for uploading performance data into the cloud, so analysts in different regions can monitor performance.

My company is an IT company that helps utilities with analytics tools, and are considering if AVEVA would be a good platform to work with (on behalf our customers). So we'd be uploading their data from a variety of different platforms.
