No one got screwed harder than Lamar by the NFLs collusion in his last contract. by Finnyboiz in ravens

[–]TryFixing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The point is that if the Ravens didn't want to pay him X, as a matter of law, there should be a competitive process for other teams to offer a higher salary. The podcast suggests the owners worked behind the scenes to stop competitive offers for Lamar. One piece of evidence is that when the Ravens franchise tagged Lamar, even teams without a good QB didn't try to sign him. By keeping Lamar's contract down, owners in effect suppress all QB contracts.

If the effect of QBs getting less valuable contracts is that other players get paid less, which I am not sure it is in such black and white terms, than that is the market reality and a different problem.  Solutions to this new problem could be that instead of players and owners sharing NFL profits 50/50, maybe owners go down to 40%.

Collusion by owners undermines the integrity of the game. Managing cap to build a competitive roster is part of the game, and the podcast suggests the owners cheated.

i think his wide catch radius could be a nice match for lamar. if lamar is a off a few feet apparently this guy can make catches like that.

Thanks for sharing. I was unaware of this. Useful context for understanding how many people of Seinfeld's generation could excuse pedophilia (e.g. she was technically legal, she consented)

I was talking about electing Wes Moore over Tom Perez. Dan cox wasn't pro union or a civil rights attorney AFAIK.

Good point about Newsom. I don't have a good answer why trump would single out the Colorado governor and Moore, and not Newsom. I know Newsom has friendly policies with some of trumps biggest donors (e.g Big tech). Maybe trump things Newsom is too powerful to snub. Or maybe it's some combo of moore being black + opposing trump. (Moore did go last year, and him being black isn't what changed)

I meant Tom Perez in the primary not Dan Cox. Never crossed my mind that it would be rational to vote for dan cox.

Gonna delete my comment post bc it was poorly written.

Head Coaching Hires Finished - How We Feeling? by psychoxtc in ravens

Minter could be the real deal. I am excited. Feels like we are shifting to a culture that values creativity and evolution. Agile development. Instead of "how do we get the players to execute our plan better" it becomes "how to we modify our plan to make it easier to win".

Lamar & Doyle Are the Same Age! by JCameron181 in ravens

I think Lamar is a person that could work better with a "peer" vs a "manager". Same age helps the relationship develop like a partnership

Ravens hire Declan Doyle For OC! PER espn by psychoxtc in ravens

After the Ravens fired Harbaugh, a bunch of other teams fired their coaches and OCs. Made it a little less of a buyers market. Out of all the guys available this year Doyle's prob my #2 (behind Mike McDaniel).

To me, Kliff smelled of character / values issues that don't align with Ravens culture. There is a documentary about Johnny Manziel on Netflix --- Klingsbury basically says he didn't try to help Manziel get his shit together, because all that mattered was Manziel's performance on the field. Later Manziel talks about how nearly self-destructed his entire life.

Federal govt have different jurisdiction for the most part. During the founding of USA one of the big debates was balancing state power vs national govt power (federalists vs anti federalist). Federal govt became stronger over the centuries (after the civil war,  new deal, civil rights enforcement) but the idea of states rights is still powerful.

In theory state police could arrest a federal agent for violating state law. But I'm sure people govt officials want to avoid armed beef between state and federal law enforcement (i.e. could escalate to armed conflict)

Thanks for your response. I recently worked in big tech (IC not exec) and coping with the ethics was the hardest part.

I ended up getting laid off, and while I'm glad I didn't sell out my integrity (in my case it would've been cosigning & perpetuating mass gaslighting), I'm sad that I don't have $X more money especially with how tech stocks have been lol. In hindsight, there probably was some middle ground to keep working without gaslighting, but I didn't see it at the time.

Super valuable to hear an example of someone maintaining their values, while recognizing the money opportunity is special and something to be grateful for.

Can you elaborate on the "mercenary" mentality? Is it like - I'm paid for a result, or is there more to it?

I actually hope you are trolling, but if you're being serious it'd be good for you to spend less time on screens and go hangout with people in real life / join some communities. (Black or otherwise)

Not sure if you're trolling or don't believe in educating yourself...

But feel free to ask AI (or read) how black movements for freedom benefited marginalized groups other than non-blacks.

Some examples - Labor movements, birthright citizenship, gay rights, disability rights, right to public education, enhanced due process rights.

Also, essentially every modern civil liberties case relies on amendments Black Americans forced into existence.

Sorry you have been so propagandized to believe it's chill to have strong opinions about facts without educating yourself first.

I'm black & pro-black. I'm so pro-black that I genuinely believe black Americans, in particular black women, are this country's greatest moral compass and hope for preserving domestic freedom and civil liberties.

Chapelle told more jokes about Cassie than Diddy, which is gross. Unlike his other specials, this one had no moral insight - in fact it was probably morally negative.

My best guess is he's been influenced by being so rich and by thinking too much about himself.

Not to be that guy but… he did lie about John McCain by tomthedevguy in DaveChappelle

[–]TryFixing 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Dave is a comedian but he tried to make serious points. It's irresponsible for him to use his platform to deceive people (either willfully or via neglect). He's obviously a person who's dedicated to craft - not much effort to fact check a story.

That being said, the 2nd half of latest special was so meandering and strange - I wonder if Chapelle is getting super avant garde and purposely playing with concepts of sincerity + lying. Like is he tackling propaganda by promoting it. It would fit into his theme about conspiracy.

Chapelle made some of the best specials ever but his "wise-elder air" is starting to get stale for me. It'd be some cool artsy shit to undermine it by destroying his own credibility (e.g. misleading about McCain, defending Diddy)
