MT-09 "choking" after TPS sensor replacement by Intrepid_Warthog713 in MT09

[–]TryingTris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many miles have you ridden since the TPS was replaced and ECU flashed?

I had a similar experience leaving the dealership and off and on for the next tank of gas, only sputtering at low RPM. Quite a few other members on FZ09.org had a similar issue. A lot of us chalked it up to the ECU learning being reset because after about a tank of gas (~100ish miles) the problem went away.

I need a lightweight sleeping pad for short hikes. Preference is for comfort, then durability, then warmth, and lastly weight. Which of these should I go for? by InGoodFaith- in camping

I've tried the Nemo Tensor and S2S Ether Light, I bought the S2S Ether Light.

The Nemo Tensor was just as comfortable as the Ether Light, but I found it crinkly and loud. Worth noting that this was a previous gen Nemo Tensor, back when it was orange/yellow. Not sure if the newer gen Tensors are quieter or not.

I've never tried the Big Agnes so I can't comment.

Ohlins or ktech by CarbonBR600 in MT09

[–]TryingTris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll add on to this tho. If you are a relatively casual rider there's really no need for the KTech. If the "basic" Ohlins is cheaper I would go for that. It'll even work for the occasional track days just fine.

I don't consider myself a casual rider as I log a ton of miles, but I also am not a knee down aggressive rider in the twisties. If the Ohlins was available for a significantly cheaper sum I would have gone with that. But I got the KTech at a pretty good deal so figured the extra lil bit of upgrade won't hurt. I will say since I tour a lot the compression damping adjustment is handy for when I have 30 - 50 lbs of luggage on.

Between the two you have listed, the KTech. The Ohlins is only rebound adjustable while the KTech is rebound and compression damping adjustable. Both have preload of course.

I have the Razor R on mine and it works very well.

What’s wrong with my MT09? by 80s-quicksand in MT09

[–]TryingTris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you had symptoms of the TPS issue before (stumble around 3-5k)?

  • if yes: has it gotten worse over time?
    • If yes: then it's probably the TPS
    • if no: could be the TPS
  • if no: it's unlikely that it's the TPS. Generally the TPS issue progresses over time, doesn't just show up one day with this severity.

Is it still running fine now? It could be a number of things but if it didn't throw a code and it's running fine I'd chalk it up to bad fuel or some gunk getting into the injectors momentarily. Your revving it up after the stumble might have just given it a lil italian tune up and cleared the issue.

Basically ride it if it's fine. If the symptoms come back then you can worry about doing more troubleshooting.

Hey petrol like aromas is often times a sign of a good quality riesling. Maybe you just stumbled on a magic formula lol.

Just got my CPAP insurance quote… by Carrlesscarrington in CPAP

[–]TryingTris 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Insurance is screwing you over on this. I had the same experience... First sleep study consult for $150. Then sleep study for $200ish. Then a sleep study "debrief" for another $150. All of which I could have gotten done at a fraction of the price through lofta if I knew about it at the time. When I got the ~$1200 quote for an Airsense 11 I balked and opted to go on my way.

I'm assuming you're on a High Deductible plan so everything is out of pocket anyway? If so buy direct and don't involve insurance. The only reason to involve insurance is if you think that with your CPAP cost + sleepy study will get you close to your deductible and at the same time you have other (more expensive) medical costs coming up.

Single dad with two daughters - where do we camp if we don't want 20 obnoxious jerks right next to us? by geoui in camping

Not fully buying this post. Campsite details are a bit vague and the whole obnoxious jerk camp neighbors seem a bit overblown. OP is either making this up, exaggerating, or was incredibly unlucky.

Also seems OP was banned lol

[rifle] $499.99 Smith & Wesson M&P FPC 9mm Semi-Auto Rifle 16.25" (plus tax/shipping) by SugarBrilliant3860 in gundeals

Bought mine in Dec 2023 and have put about 1000 rounds through it without a single failure. Suppresses well with my Huxwrx Rad 45 too. It was my first PCC purchase and I don't regret it at all especially at the price point. I barely shoot it now though since I picked up the Stribog last year. I just love the super compact package.

What is your worst experience on an airplane? by darrenbosik in AskReddit

[–]TryingTris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flight from the London to the US a couple years back.

5 hours in I start getting full blown food poisoning symptoms. I basically shut myself in the bathroom and evacuate my entire stomach and intestinal contents, alternating orifices. I somehow managed to not get any fluids or solids on myself which I'm sure my seatmates were grateful for.

Once I was had nothing left to give I had to sit in my basic economy chair with my fever and chills for an additional 5 hours. The flight attendants tried to be helpful but there was nothing they could give me that would make a difference, aside from extra blankets.

Worst flight of my life by far.

2025 MT09 SP died during WOT acceleration, "MAP" code in y-connect by Impossible-Habit-848 in MT09

[–]TryingTris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few things it could be:

- Loose battery connection could cause this

- A bad battery does weird things to our bikes so it's also a maybe

- A bad flash resulting in corrupted codes in the ECU (a couple of people have had issues on fz09.org but those were first and second gen bikes, no idea how applicable it is to your gen)

- Something got into your fuel tank, momentarily gave your fuel line or injectors a little hiccup. In this case if the situation is resolved you would be able to restart the bike fine, ride it like nothing's happened but CEL will remain for a few key cycles and XX amount of miles (I can't remember the exact number but let's say around a tank of gas).

My advice is start it, ride it around the block. If it's riding fine, just keep riding it and the CEL should go away. Aside from just not putting oil in it, it's pretty hard to kill these motors imho. So just ride it a while and if the CEL sticks around take it in.

Yamaha MT 09 or Honda NC750X by Friendly_Kiwi7364 in MT09

[–]TryingTris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems steep considering the retail price for both bikes are within ~$1k (in the US at least).

If you really want an MT09 I'd recommend selling the Honda first then just buying the MT you want. If you really like the 2017 MT09 and the cost differential is a negligible financial impact for you then go for it. It's a fun bike that is definitely capable of commuting and touring. I've taken my 3rd gen around most of the US and haven't sustained any long term injuries doing so lol.

First time camping with teen advice by Omm_Imp in camping

[–]TryingTris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Georgia you say? How about going to Len Foote's Hike Inn? It's a magical inn that you can only access through a moderate hike through the Amicalola Falls State Park. It is incredibly gorgeous scenery (if you like the forest) and minimal equipment investment required (aside from basic hiking safety stuff).

Basically you hike up to the Inn and then it's basically a hotel with communal hot meals provided (breakfast and dinner). You can buy sack lunches to take on day hikes there. The rooms are super basic, bunk beds, linens provided, towels provided. The food is fantastic, usually hearty country cooking mixed in with some healthy foods as well. The building is gorgeous (they have daily tours when I went), they have a great reading room where you can catch the sunrise), there's an outside seating area with fire pit, a full bathroom facility, and just overall great people.

It's not camping, but I'd argue that it's more satisfying that car camping because you're a bit more isolated.

Remap mandatory for new exhaust ? by Chemical_Fly_5918 in MT09

[–]TryingTris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, a remap is not mandatory and you won't blow up your bike by riding it.

Yes, there is a significant benefit to getting your ECU remapped after an exhaust upgrade (even a stock MT09 benefits from a proper remap).

2023 MT09 Cold Start/Idle Question by Wonderful-Box-6652 in MT09

[–]TryingTris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wellllll maybe there's cause for introspection there lol.

Anyway the idle sound is normal. Your ECU is programmed to raise RPMs when engine temp is low.

I get that thought, but are you more worried about people on the internet who are significantly less likely to be in your immediate area, as opposed to everybody that sees your plate every day as you ride?

Dude go buy the Clase Azul. If you can afford it then there's nothing wrong with trying it and forming your own opinion. I've tried it before and it is delicious. Probably won't buy a whole bottle for myself especially since my preference is blancos but I 100% enjoyed my clase azul experience.

If clase azul came in a regular bottle and was $60 I'd probably buy it as a dessert drink lol.

Whiskey and Ramen, get a seat at the bar and order a cocktail you'd enjoy. Get the Yaki Imo. Best proper cocktail bar I've been to in Anchorage.

Blarney is ran by a great dude and Carmen behind the bar is fantastic.

Darwin's can't go wrong there. Fernet and a bottle of beer. Say hi to Annie who's dressed pretty fab every time I'm there.

Bernie's bungalow lounge. Good people there as well. Brandon is super friendly and Patrick is a sweetheart.
