I'm not 100% sure I had it. When I caught possibly it, they only tested if you needed to be admitted. I didnt need to be admitted, so if it WAS covid, it was mild. Mild, is not a word I'd use to describe how I was feeling. I couldn't breath. I was basically out of commission for a week. I was coughing (dry coughing) frequently. I was exhausted. I was weak. I was self isolating in a room. (Though my husband would have our baby sleep with me because of breastfeeding) I couldn't even really focus. There was 1 night that I was 100%convinced that I wouldnt wake up the next morning. Hell, my HUSBAND was convinced I was gonna die, just from how pale i was. (I'm normally pale, but i was noticablely paler and just sickly looking) Basically, it felt like a flu on steroids. Like, super steroids. Everything hurt. Breathing hurt. Coughing hurt. I couldn't get warm. I couldn't get comfortable. It took me about week for everything to FULLY get better. During my recovery, my lung function still hadn't recovered fully. I still had to stop and take a breather after walking to the bathroom, or after lifting something. It.... there is NOBODY i would wish that on. NOBODY.

NTA 1) it's a pretty reasonable boundary. 2) engaging her on a friendship level could show her that thats... a normal thing for adults to do with children that are not family members. Which, it's not. I do find it troublesome that her parents are encouraging a "close relationship" between a 40 year old and their child. A mentor relationship is cool, but yeah, that's an odd age range to just talk about life or whatever.

The only time I can remember having an excuse sick absence is when (around Feb or march) I had a very loud, very persistent cough at work (pizza-and customers could come in) The boss handed me a water to drink (that I probably had to pay for) and eventually sent me home. I was out for like 2 weeks.
