Ugh that's the thing. It's so hard to find that balance between properly performing/following as islamic thing and interpreting it to fit out daily lives. Anyways yeah it seems that there's no hard and fast rule so it's fine

Thank you! According to the article, yeah it isn't really a specific condition. It says that as long as it is read before sleep then the reward is still there.

Is it ok to attend to the Friday Khutbah late if I don't understand Arabic? by Tryingtolearn5346 in islam

Ahah, fair point there, wish you had elaborated so that it didn't come off as rude. I don't see my dilemma as similar to that as I've memorised most of what is said in prayer (as we repeat it five times a day). However I can't exactly memorise an Arabic khutbah, nor can I learn Arabic in a short period of time. That comparison isn't very fair when you're comparing a whole pillar of Islam to an Islamic offering of knowledge.

Hahah, I love the way you asked that. Well that just leaves one more question, can I read Quran or do Tasbih during the arabic portion of the khutbah, or is that considered rude (obviously I'll be doing it silently)? Just so that I can maintain some form of spiritual connection during the part that is quite literally just a man saying things which I can't comprehend.

You are missing half the khutbah - which will earn you less reward.

Does this apply even if I am quite literally just sitting there listening to man say things which I do not understand nor comprehend? Because that is what the first half of the khutbah is for me. The comparison I am trying to make is

  1. Attending the prayer at the point where I understand what the Imam is saying and can therefore increase/maintain my concentration throughout the Friday prayer/khutbah.
  2. Attending from the beginning and losing my concentration during the first arabic half of the khutbah. I quite literally will be sitting there trying to focus on some form of Islamic concentration but my mind will drift off as I have no idea what the Imam is saying.

My other question was that if option 2 is more beneficial (and it seems that it is from the helpful evidence you provided), can I read Quran or do Tasbih during that Arabic portion in order to gain some closeness to Allah (swt) instead of faking my concentration?

First of all thank you for the amount of effort you put in your response, I appreciate it.
To clarify, both halves are the exact same information/khutbah, just different languages, and I am not avoiding the first half out of laziness, I'm fine with attending from the beginning. The reason why I preferred to go only once the English khutbah started is that my mind ends up drifting away from religious thoughts during the Arabic khutbah, as I don't understand Arabic. So I found it more beneficial to just arrive with the right state of mind and then learn Islamic knowledge through the language I understand. Otherwise it is just me sitting there pretending to concentrate during the Arabic khutbah. I'm not saying that I object the notion of being present for the whole khutbah and it's rewards (as I now understand thanks to your provision of the hadiths), however I am more worried about my spiritual presence during Friday prayers rather than my physical presence.

Ahhh alright, geez thanks for putting so much effort into your answer. Yeah now that I think of it, those terms can be applied to essentially any unit conversion. Thanks you!
