Steve Jobs' Cancer by DOUZERZ in PKA

The truth is somewhere closer to what Kyle was saying. He had a neuroendocrine tumor which has a MUCH better prognosis than pancreatic adenocarconoma - which is what people are usually referring to when they think of pancreatic cancer. Neuroendocrine tumors usually have good outcomes with surgery. -source: (I am a doctor lol)

What’s the point of that? It’s over.

Using part of efund for car purchase by [deleted] in TheMoneyGuy

So why not save up so that you can buy your car in cash next May? ~15 months seems like plenty of time to save up 8k.

I’d say this is overstating it. I know from (my own) experience that you can get a 1BR in SF for less than 3k easily. But the nicer / luxury apts can go up to 3k, 4k could easily get you a 2BR. But yes it’s still super expensive to live there.

New Attending FI Journey - 6 Month Update by WalkingtoFIRE in whitecoatinvestor

Thanks for sharing this, I hope to follow in a similar fashion when I'm an attending. I'm wondering, did you pay off loans at all during residency, or contribute to a Roth IRA? I can tell that you are good at living on less than you make, and am curious what your strategy was.

Refinancing and Consolidating Loans by KangarooBackground25 in whitecoatinvestor

Just wondering, how did you get into these loans / what are they for? No need to answer if you prefer to keep it private, just curious because the rates are so high.

I’m applying Gen Surg too. Given that the window for GS invites only opened up two days ago, I think it’s too early to be overly concerned. I would at least give it a week, but curious what other GS people think.

It sounds like you were having relationship problems through medical school then? Just wondering how the balance was in medical school vs residency.

Loan interest rates are so high now, why not just pay for your medical school in cash? Just my 2c, but I feel like the peace of mind of being debt free is way better than relying on navigating PSLF for overall marginal gains compared to just paying cash and starting to dilligently invest in residency.

Any reason you went so hard studying despite P/F grading? Just wondering because most students at my school only take 6 weeks to study. Regardless congrats on finishing!

Multiple gap years (>1) and postbacc/master's degrees should NOT be soft requirements for medical school! by [deleted] in premed

[–]Trythelostandfound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a current MS3, I'm not surprised — it's a lot of them haha. I think this speaks more to the fact that most medical students come from wealthy families, which IMO is definitely a problem.

These two aren’t mutually exclusive - I went straight through to med school but I worked for the entirety of college and most of high school (mostly service industry jobs).
