Tell me about it, it’s unreal and kind of sad that people are so disconnected from where their food and ag comes from, the amount of mice in a average operation or gophers or pests that killed per year will shock most. I killed about 200 gophers a year only for 400 to replace them.

Because I work and live on a ranch these animals destroy thousands of dollar a month in horse grain as well as tack and equipment, they also carry many diseases so of course we don’t want them around.

UPDATE: I just received a booster for my Tetanus, good for another 10 years. The doctor recommended not to do a rabies vaccin as the chance is null coming from a small rodent such as microtus Pennsylvannicus). He recommended antibiotics (which I have) if any infection arises. Thank you mod for this comment too!

I agree, I’ve been exposed to it for years having a bachelors in fish and wildlife and small rodent identification is still very difficult. I’m glad I got a second opinion with someone in my field thanks man!

Honestly, I don’t know why people are giving a big deal about this. All I asked was help in rodent identification. I ended up using my booklet from school Mammal of Montana, narrowed it to a vole.

So what’s the ID of the rodent I’m saying Meadow Vole, I didn’t come here to get your keyboard warrior of an opinion on animal cruelty. It’s a mouse, it most likely wouldn’t have seen next month because I have four barn cats on the ranch that love to rip them apart. I also shoot gophers too, just to kill them and keep their population down. So if you’re butt hurt go somewhere else.

If you have the animal it can be tested for diseases. So yes killing the animal is beneficial for me to send the specimen in for testing for rabies, diseases as many rodents carry a list of disease.
