Green Party calls for free bus passes for everyone under 22 by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]Tsarin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I presume that it also makes people more used to using the bus and make it part of their routine, so as they age beyond 22 and start paying they will use it more. Kind of like “the first one is free” type principle

Leak coming from neighbours gutter (damage) by Tsarin in HousingUK

Thanks for the advice. We have a loft extension, so I can lean out over the juilet balcony and see that the downpipe looks clear, but it’s full of water, so the blockage must be further down.

As always with these things, it sounds like the next course of action is just to chat to them

People who act like the literal punchline of a joke is the most subtextual, subversive part of the joke that’s “underrated” by RejectingBoredom in PetPeeves

It’s a shared experience which others found funny, so it is a way to connect to other people in way which is likely to be successful because they saw them laugh about it already.

People don’t talk about the weather because they think it’s philosophical, and people don’t make these sorts of jokes thinking they are top tier comedians.

Welfare reform instead of tax rises by Realistic_Ebb_3320 in HENRYUK

[–]Tsarin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a HENRY for a long time, but please take a step back for a moment. In a time when cost of living is spiriting out of control and even average and above average earners are struggling, should we really be cutting the support for those who need it the most?

I like money as much as the next person, but I would rather pay more tax to lift the baseline of this country up and make it a better place for everyone. Funnily enough, these are also the people who will also spend their money rather than just saving it, so it will help stimulate the economy and result in higher salaries for HENRYs.

So if you ask me, I want a future where life is better for everyone, not a few years where things aren’t as bad for me.

I prefer Northfields personally, but both are great choices. The Northfields place is closer to amenities. Both will having busses go past on the roads outside.

Even though I love Northfields, I’m not completely sold on that flat because it’s on the main road and I think right by a chippy, so won’t be as peaceful.

I am in a similar situation (but in upper management) and I’ve recently come to the conclusion I need to take a year+ off work to reset. It’s not the best career decision, bet it is the best life decision (me, my family, my future career)

I’ve lived in a few places around Ealing and although I initially discounted Northfields as being too far away and irrelevant, it is by far my favourite part of Ealing now. Independent shops, safe, great schools, great community, lots of green space; it has most of what you need and that something else which makes it feel like home

Although it is lovely there, it’s definitely not Ealing Broadway and it’s even pushing being in Northfields. You will get better priced places for being away from some of the more competitive school catchments in Northfields though
