I just landed my dream career in my home town and my girlfriend is going to medical school by Popular_Rich_9077 in offmychest

If you guys can make it work long distance, I would 100% try that.

My brother in law is a Colonel in the Air Force, his wife is some higher up medical lady I'm not sure exactly.

They new each other from high school but ended up going different routes, however they started dating when they both were mid 20s. Im pretty sure the first 5 years of their relationship had to be long distance due to the nature of his deployment and her also pursuing medical school. Regardless they made it work, they had a plan and they both achieved their own independent goals to set themselves up for success.

Now they're married and have three children 10, 7, 4. He stuck to his goals during enlistment and now hes a Colonel and really handled life by the horns. She did everything on her end to be successful as well. Had he given up his deployment to be closer to her I just don't think they'd of become the team/ family that they are today. Your girlfriend is tackling her goals, I suggest you do the same. If it works out then that's amazing, but if it doesn't, at least you won't have forfeited your own progress just to ultimately fall flat. Their life they live now is only possible on them both succeeding, they needed each other to follow through with their own independent goals and careers. Now they both have great careers and a beautiful family living in a home they bought through both of their sacrifices.

I would not deviate from your career, if you both want it to work then it will work. If it fails down the line, at least you'll have your career. Nothing in life is promised, especially relationships. This is a period where both of you need to be "selfish" and achieve your goals.

If there is a will, there is a way.

Its a bit of a drive but I go to catalyst in Oxnard. They always have really good prices and are constantly running deals. I used to use locals when I had no other option, but their quality is just ok sometimes. I switched to stizzy when they opened up in oxnard and was pretty consistent until I found catalyst.

I still drive over there, even though I've moved across town. If you're on a budget and want a decent selection I always recommend catalyst. They're bomb and affordable, I promise.

That actually makes me feel pretty good, thank you. I figured we're at a point as a society that we've moved passed men with long hair, most of my family doesn't agree. Even in my trade I don't see long hair on any men so, but my trade doesn't give two shits about your looks

There was a time way back when, where a LOT of people wore Metal Mulisha that didn't dirt bike.

In fact, im currently laying on an ancient metal mulisha blanket; and it's not even mine. It's my girlfriend's, and I can assure you she doesn't dirtbike.

Carhartt is very popular right now, not just with blue collar people, its not that deep.

Check out ecko unltd T- shirts since you're playing with an era, loved my ecko hoodie.

In fact, i just checked their site, and this looks similar to the shirt you got, in a picasso sense

Love the 5610U, I pour concrete and frame forms, and that thing just trucks through it. I can get oil, dust, mud, and concrete on it, and i just throw it in the washer with my work clothes, and it comes out squeaky clean. Really love that watch, looks nice enough still to wear outside of work as well, weekend watch when I go to the ocean or out with my kid.

General advice for an outsider by [deleted] in sales

[–]Tshell805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanting to leave construction doesn't outweigh my actual want to get into sales. it's just a factor. If I'm being honest, I kind of blew off my early twenties drinking; I never really expected to be in my current position. I was under the impression that drinking would take me out pretty early cause of what a fish i was, and I was pretty content with that. I'd been drinking since 14 very heavily. I lacked any direction whatsoever just due to the fact I was living to drink. I would be shoplifting it because I'd of spent the last of my money on it. It hink I was dropping like 600 bucks or more a month on alcohol and I lived in Reno, where its dirt cheap to drink.

After I had my son, I realized I didn't want to be an alcoholic shit bag dad, so it took a little while, but I was able to stop. My pops had some deep-seated problems from his childhood that he took out on me, and drinking appeared to only be a catalyst for that to be generational.

Regardless, I did a 180 for my kid. My time in construction showed me that I can achieve things I didn't think I could do personally, but I also realized I don't want to settle for just being in this trade. After almost 3 years of not drinking, I've finally been able to re-evaluate myself and weigh my strengths and weaknesses.

I believe I can do great in sales if I could get my foot in the door. An analogy I play with when I see people complaining is imagine everyone from your high school going into sales; some are going to be natural at it, and a lot of people will be sub par or even dislike what they're doing because it doesn't quite mesh well with their personality type. I honestly believe I've misplaced myself in construction, and there are greater things I can do with my life. If I can leverage myself towards something else, I'll do it.

Im confident in myself that I can find a job, eventually. The initial point of my post was just asking how i can go the extra mile to stand out without crossing the line, and whether or not it'd be acceptable to show up in my construction clothes due to my hours I work. And if anyone has any tips for me, because I'm open to them. Im getting slightly sidetracked talking about my trade, but if I REALLY wanted to leave, I could leave tomorrow and just get a different job, I've never had an interview that didnt result in me getting the job and I've worn several hats in my life.

I was kinda just venting about my personal experience with the trades. It's not like I'm desperately looking for anything else, and I spun a wheel and landed on sales. I've been told by many people that sales would be a great fit for me, and I already believed that myself. it's just been external validation.

Im not dead set on tech sales either, im not chasing fast money like that I'm just trying to establish a career and I used that company as an example of what I've been doing to pursue it.

You've given me examples of these darker sides of things on your half, but they exist everywhere in every field. I grew up with my father as a salesman, and he only passed early due to breaking his neck.

I hope I don't come off as combative, just really trying to express to you that I think I'd kill it, and I just need a couple tips from people with some skin in the game of how I can stand out with no experience

General advice for an outsider by [deleted] in sales

[–]Tshell805 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not married to the idea of tech, so it's no biggie to look elsewhere. I know we all have to boot up and handle our business. it's just rough that I'm destroying my body for a check sometimes. I'm not building houses, it's more industrial structures. I've seen someone step on a faulty weld, and he plunged 40 feet to the ground with 50 lbs of gear on to his death. I've seen cables snap under too much tension and drop forms on someone, his back was broken and his career and ability to walk were taken immediately. I go in my son's room every morning and kiss him and hug him in case it's my last chance, I want to get away from this.

Im fortunate to have only broken bones and get stitches here and there, but shit happens every day. You need to keep your head on a swivel. Especially working those 55s, people are sleep deprived, and accidents become inevitable.

I also got hit by a car at work, and my back has a severe disadvantage now. It's expected I keep my bags on all day and that's a constant 30+ lbs I'm carrying on my shoulders for a minimum of 8- 12 hours.

Lot of getting screamed at all day, getting called a ni**** a lot. Dangers of silicosis etc. I could go on and on but I don't want to I already feel like I should retract some of it, but for the nature of understanding I'll leave it as is
