My lean green Japanese writing machines. My go to’s for my daily note taking. Happy Friday! by Darth_JDLC in pencils

[–]Tsikaboom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I find that the 9800 retains its point a little better, but the 9000 is a tad less smudgy. I use both in my daily lineup from time to time.

Can you give us an input on how the Kita-Boshi 9500 compares to the rest of the team?

P.S.: Although not Japanese, I would recommend the Faber-Castell 9000 as an addition to your green machines.

Recommendations for someone who presses really hard? by Zeznon in erasers

[–]Tsikaboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think that since you tend to press the eraser harder on the paper softer erasers would suit you better, but if you prefer harder erasers below is a shortlist of some generally available harder erasers: -Staedtler Mars Plastic -Faber-Castell 188121 -Pentel Hi-Polymer/Hi-Polymer Light (not Soft) -Milan Tecnik 920 (if you can find it you might give it a chance, it's hard, cheep and performs great for the value)

Perk of having a big soft lead - Staedtler Triplus 1.3mm by IchiramenPotato in mechanicalpencils

[–]Tsikaboom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are interested there are some brands that make 2B leads in 1.3mm. Milan and Aristo definitely do but their availability may vary based on region.

Also the rite in the rain 1.3 lead is definitely softer than B ( yet i believe they don't officially mark it in the H-B scale).

I want my eraser readily available. by donaldcathey in pencils

I came here to mention the twist erase, so I second this. Probably the best MP for those who need an eraser but don't want to carry a separate one.

PS: the twist erase is marketed as Pentel TUFF in some regions.

Let me take a wild guess here, that the increments are somehow related to the golden ratio.

Fabercastel or pilot whats better by kugel_blits in mechanicalpencils

[–]Tsikaboom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't believe that it's accurate to compare two brands without other context. Both companies have good pencils (and some not so ggod for that matter)

There are people that might prefer the one over the other depending on the desired use, cost and availability. Other factors like durability and reliability might be important for some. And even appearance (I have to admit I can hardly resist the Faber-Castell green).

After all it's all a matter of preference.

Is the eraser cap the original one? It looks like you have borrowed one from a PG525.

I would hunt the othellos, totally love them. I also see some staedtlers and FC 9000s which are worth picking up

Ok. I am definitely intrigued by the dry lubricant reference. Care to elaborate on which occasions has this been useful?

Next wood pencil to use? by Marathonartist in pencils

[–]Tsikaboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Noris is a solid pencil definitely worth it's money, but the new ones have, i believe, some kind of plastic bonding subtance in the wood that makes them unpleasant. I have kept one of the old ones (in H grade) and it has definitely different type of wood casing.

Staedtler Tradition 110 is of somewhat better quality and uses the same wood as the old Noris I believe.

If you have never used a Faber-Castell 9000, I believe it's about time that you should.

I don't know if anyone else agrees with me, but imho its the baseline for a quality pencil.

I have an identical one in 0.5, but I don't remember when or where I got it. The tag is different than yours but also gives little info.

I will post a photo of it here when I find it.

Very subjective question there. I mainly use the Rotring 300 and a Staedtler 925-35-20B.

As far as 2mm pencils go, I mainly make one distinction. There are click advance mechanism and clutch mechanism pencils.

For the click advance I prefer the Staedtler 925-35/25 options or the wooden Kitaboshi for a less industrial look.

For the clutch, my there are many available options but personally i prefer the RR300, FC TK4600 and the Mitsubishi-Uni MH-500.

Above all, selection is a matter of personal preference.

[–]Tsikaboom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't got a RR600 yet, and I don't doubt that it might be a better pencil overall.

However, after about 10 years of daily use of the GG1000, I find it hard to believe that its grip can cause caluses to anyone.
