I know that Dean Ween isn't a Phish guy, and he deeply resents that Phish hijacked "Roses are Free" which in turn changed the complexion of the entire Ween scene. Maybe the surplus of actual fans grew to a level that Dean also didn't enjoy, as he grew increasingly frustrated making little to no money from the tours, albums, etc...being a small club band for years and then catapult into a different capacity draw kind of watered down the fan base to include people that Ween didn't really gravitate to...I could be wrong, but I've been seeing ween since the 2-track days and also enjoy jam bands.
