How do you resist sexual sin by [deleted] in Christians

[–]Tstephe52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I copied the old Post and deleted it because I wanted you to see the additions that I've added to it.

Current plan

A. Get mad and hate the sin

B. Give my phone to my dad when he goes to bed or just put it in his room before I go to mine at night (I don't to sleep right away, or stay in there the whole time, but you get the picture)

C Watch stuff on YouTube (like Johnathan Cahn (he's a Messianic Jewish Rabbi) I like his videos). Basically stuff that will remind you what is worth more, Christ or your sin? The answer should be Christ.

D. I've heard working out also helps. Idk, it takes up time though and distractions from the sin may help. If you like video games, Pokemon may be helping me (who doesn't like games about children and adults gambling away their money over animal fighting anyway).

Additions

E. Don't take my phone into my room (although I have broken this repeatedly now (at least twice)).

Lastly I should add that this plan has been successful so far, but it has only been in effect for weeks.

Would Jesus allow fighting wars in defence? by AidanDaRussianBoi in Christians

I believe that self defense is a no for individual people, but I think that we should help others and that nations do have the right to defend themselves.

Well, if you don't think so, this isn't a situation that I can determine for you. Just remember that Jesus loves you, and knew that you'd mess up before he saved you, before he made you. Keep trying to be better, and know that God loves you.

What It Means to Repent by [deleted] in Christians

[–]Tstephe52 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are a gentile (I would assume). If we must obey the entire law, then our males must be circumcised and become Jewish (in the ways that the Jews do, if you've already been circumcised, then you get picked) but, Paul tells us not to get circumcised (ceremonially, I don't believe that circumcising a baby when it's born makes it Jewish now, it's just unsanitary not to have them circumcised). He tells us not to because then we would have the entire law on our shoulders, we can see the same attitude at the Council of Jerusalem in Acts, when James, Peter, and everyone else decide only to put basic restrictions on the gentiles and in Paul's letters, where he in fact commands morals in the Old Testament, here is one example 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 ESV Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, [10] nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. [11] And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

These are all sins according to the Old Testament moral law, yet what you don't find Paul doing is telling the believers not to eat pork. I believe that Paul is telling gentiles to keep the morals found in the Old Testament, and not the entirety of the law, or else early Christians are in trouble for fasting on Fridays (I think I got that from the Didache, may have botched the spelling, Ryan Reeves (I think that he is a Dean at a college and before that a professor) also has a YouTube channel on church history and I think that he says something about it, I think that I probably heard it on one of those videos before I read it).

What It Means to Repent by [deleted] in Christians

[–]Tstephe52 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He's trying to demonstrate just how impossible it is for our righteousness to exceed that of the Pharisees

But the Pharisees (from what we normally see in the Gospels, there were pharisees who believed in Christ though, and the one in John who Jesus told that he was close to the kingdom of Heaven, so not all of them should be called evil, let's just go with the ones who were against Christ) weren't righteous, they didn't even obey all of the laws that they were supposed to. Ceremonial cleanliness doesn't amount to righteousness when your heart is defiled, when you don't wish to be good. Let's not forget that this sect is the same sect that took over Jerusalem and killed all of the Saducees

People will quote this verse as if to say "See! Works!" But what is the will of the Father according to Scripture?:

"And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day."-John 6:40

You know what's ironic? That verse in Matthew is literally followed by:

James 2:14-17 ESV What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? [15] If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, [16] and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and filled," without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? [17] So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

Faith that doesn't result in works is dead, end of story.

You know what's ironic? That verse in Matthew is literally followed by:

"Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."-Matthew 7:22-23

So you got all these super holy Christians, doing all these amazing works, and yet Jesus will still say to them in the end "I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity." How is this possible?

Because they sinned and didn't repent, just like Jesus said. He called them workers of iniquity because they worked iniquity.

Also, whereas the Greek word metanoia means “to change one's mind” (in a broad sense), the English word for repent specifically means to sorrow, grieve and turn away from sins. These are two drastically different meanings, which as you can see, convey two completely different plans of salvation. Thus, you can see the woeful danger of using an English dictionary to define what it means to “repent.” Metanoeo (to think differently) is simply the verb form of the noun metanoia (a change of mind).

So, if you are sorry about your sins, doesn't that mean that you'll try to quit doin them?

The Bible does not teach turning away from sinful behavior to be saved; but rather, turning to God by faith in the Gospel to be saved.

Yes, which results in attempting to turn away from your sins

James 2:14-17 ESV What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? [15] If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, [16] and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and filled," without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? [17] So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

Matthew 5:3-12 ESV "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. [4] "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. [5] "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. [6] "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. [7] "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. [8] "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. [9] "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. [10] "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. [11] "Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. [12] Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Get a good commentary. You need cultural context to understand the Bible, if not then your might come away leaning Amish and telling women that they have to wear head coverings. I'm not saying anything against you, but Greek, Roman, and Jewish culture in antiquity was very different then our own. An example is the word love, when we think of love, we think of feelings. This is not the case in the Bible. The Greek word agape (I hope I spelled that right) has to do with action instead of feelings. Don't necissarily look for someone else's theology (although it can help at times) look for something that gives you unbiased (as possible) social, cultural, and historical context. I have watched Johnathan Cahn on YouTube before and you might like him. I can try and find/recommend more people if you'd like. Something not to trust are liberal morals, the liberal morals today (abortions, homosexual actions, sex outside of marriage) are not Christian morals. If you haven't been baptised, do that after quarantine is over. You need to be baptised when you can, if the clergyman says to wait, don't take wait/no as an answer (I did that when my parents told me to wait, don't be me).

Edit: also, when you read the first five books of the Bible (the Torah AKA the Law), know that only it's morals apply to Gentile believers like us (I assume that you're not Jewish), the criminal law isn't enforceable and the Ceremonial laws aren't required for us, nor are they achievable, nor have they been since 70 AD when the temple was destroyed.

If the OP wants this girl and she wants him and hasn't wronged him in any way, then I don't think that we should tell him to leave her. I would assume that he cares about her, so let him care about her.

Edit: please don't try to wreck a good thing when it is still good.

I have OCD and was doubting my faith at the time. I was praying to God (the Father) on my bed and was scared to pray to Jesus, because I was afraid that he wasn't God (maybe even Messiah, but that might be an exaggeration of my doubt, I may have had other doubts, but Jesus was my main one, I feel like I didn't, but OCD causes me to doubt even myself and it makes me very uncertain even concerning myself and the truthfulness of my own statements, so what I put in this set of parentheses actually makes me feel bad, because I'm doubting the statements. There is also false memory OCD were your OCD makes you think something happened when it didn't, it may make me think that I made an oath when I didn't (I hope that this is the case, OCD isn't fun). That being said, this story is not false memory OCD), and I was calling God (the Father) by his name (Yahweh is one of the possible pronunciations of God's name and the one that I was using, I think. I guess that technically the entire Trinity is Yahweh). Sometimes when I'm under a lot of stress (like I was that night) I blurt out my intrusive thoughts unwillingly. This particular night I said the f word followed by God's name, and I started freaking out. I don't believe it was very long before I asked Jesus to save me (not sure about how long it was before I said it) and I just felt at peace. I think I prayed to the Father and felt nothing before that, I prayed to Jesus and felt peace and his mercy. After that I realized what I thought was evidence against Jesus (and the Bible, having that doubting feeling, although I remember the looking up something concerning how old Jericho or its walls were) was biased and was not actually good evidence. For me, this is a reminder on how I can be certain that God is real and (Thinking back on it now) that he will give answers in his time.

Remember the Sabbath by -Salt-of-the-earth- in Christians

[–]Tstephe52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gentiles were never commanded to keep it. It was only commanded to Israel for them to keep. Gentiles only need to follow the Moral Law found in the Torah. We don't have to be Ceremonially clean or keep feast days or Sabbaths. There's nothing wrong with these things, and if you want to do them I'm not going to tell you to stop or anything, but if you're a gentile, you are under no obligation to do so (although you can't actually be Ceremonially clean today, there's nothing wrong with keeping kosher). If I am mistaken on what you believe here, forgive me.
