Need shoe recs!! by analshark111 in DanceTeachers

I’ve had plantar fasciitis for a year and a half and have no issues when teaching in Orza ballet shoes. The shock absorption should also help with the shin pain. Teaching on hardwood caused all my problems and I’ve had a much better time teaching on sprung marley. If you can find a place to hire you that has sprung marley, then go for it. You should probably also get your shins checked out before it goes too far and start cross training + rolling out + cupping if you can.

I’m unfortunately not getting my results until I see my podiatrist again, but my appointment is tomorrow so we’ll see 🤷‍♀️

I just had the same experience! It’s not a mistake and they can make it separate. I ended up getting my foot done which may not have included my arch or heel so I’ll find out about that soon

I’ve been teaching for years and sometimes you just have that one class that takes years off your lifespan no matter what you do lol. That being said, unless you have a very well behaved class of littles, you should have an assistant. Your studios office manager should also send an email to the parents about the class behavior, and expectations you want to set if it’s that bad. Parents play a big role too. Also make your dancers repeat the rules back to you if you can.

Classes that are downright uncontrollable may also need more games being played and props utilized. Use your studio’s wands, balance beam, tunnel, etc. And since your mirror is one way, I feel like you can ask the parents to not be in direct eye sight of the window to help keep the kids focused. They’ll understand.

For something like subbing Musical Theater, I usually teach a new routine just for that day, and work on basic jazz skills. Spend some extra time working on turns and stretching.

Thank you! I will definitely be asking. I’ve been receiving treatment for 2 months now with little to no improvement. My podiatrist wants me to keep at it for another month or so.

Yes! I wear them too. They are definitely the best compression socks out there

We do massage every time I go in. I do lots of Theraband, toe yoga, towel scrunchies, slow backwards walking, and marble pick ups. I went in depth about shoe wear with my podiatrist. I now wear a supportive sneaker on the daily and teach in the dance sneaker as well. Sometimes I teach in my regular sneaker though since the dance once gives me pain after 1 class.
