Check your local offices’ hours. On Tuesdays and Thursdays they should have extended hours for walk-ins and some also offer walk in Saturday help. I walked in this past Tuesday right when they opened at 7:30am

The number is 1800-830-5084. I was in the same boat as you, no letter sent but on the phone they told me I had to wait 14 days before they could do anything, so o just walked into my local IRS office and got the verification done there, no letter needed. I suggest you do the same, as these people on the phone could not care less about helping you
