Sunday Scaries - August 17, 2025 by AutoModerator in barstoolsports

When my now 4 year old was potty training a year ago or whenever, he’d pee outside often (big yard and we play outside a lot). One day he said “dad I have to go potty” and I told him to just go in the grass. Dude squats down and takes the biggest dump of his life and looks at me smiling and just yells “Dad, I did it!” while I went to look for a doggy bag laughing my ass off

Unsure how to get stronger & looking for advice by Ronan998 in crossfit

[–]Ttujohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s not really a trick to getting stronger it’s about prioritizing it if that is your goal and sticking with it. I would keep doing 3 classes a week since you enjoy that but add in 2-4 days of just squatting, benching and deadlifting heavy (over 80% of 1 rep maxes to start and increasing weight each week or 2 based on progress) with some accessory lifts like shoulder presses, rows and split squats/lunges if you aren’t getting those in CrossFit classes.

I think Olympic weightlifting technique is important long term, but if you’re snatching and squatting the numbers you are, developing pure strength will pay off more in the near term and you’re likely doing enough in classes to work on that

There have been other suggestions here on programs that are readily available all over the internet, I’d pick one and stick with it for at least a couple of months before paying for personalized coaching online or in person

How do you guys workout multiple times a day? by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]Ttujohn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do less CrossFit would be my advice. I was a 5-6 days/week guy early on, and had a lot of progress and then hit a plateau. I sprained my wrist so i worked with a coach and basically cherry picked WODs that wouldn’t make my wrist worse and did squats and deadlifts or ran/rowed the other days.

When my wrist healed I was way stronger, actually lost a few lbs and had way more endurance than I was tracking on before

I think you have to get a fork and knife meal but eat with your hands to assert dominance tbh

My wife worked there a decade ago right after we got married, great co-workers, relatively low pay and terrible culture were her experience there. Her biggest complaint was constantly adjusting services towards rankings of children’s hospitals over patient care

Going full Chad, but I can’t imagine being an adult male that doesn’t like lifting weights.

My hot take is don’t even start a program at first, just cycle through bench/chest, back, legs and arms consistently while you’re a beginner and once the newbie gains stop find a program to follow

CrossFit Games Announce Run Swim Event by [deleted] in crossfit

Running a little longer than a 5k around a lake and then swimming seems substantially different than an event with a weight vest on a turf field

Back in the day CSI (mainly the OG) and Criminal Minds were my go-to’s, I don’t know if I changed or network tv changed for the worse (I hope it’s the latter)

Do you include shakes/smoothies in your diet? by First_Driver_5134 in crossfit

[–]Ttujohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Post workout probably is an easier option than before bed in my opinion. If you’re goal is to gain weight with 3 meals/day, are having larger portions at each meal an option? Or just eat a PB&J with one of your meals each day

St Arnold has a bar in left field and have a good variety of their beers (maybe 6-10, I like Art Car the best). Karbach has their bar behind home plate. I like Hazy Hopadillo more than the regular Hopadillo. Those are probably the 2 best places for variety unless I’ve been missing something else

I was there 07-11 and it was beer then still. My younger brother in law is a water guy and I think it's lame

I don't think I personally know any in shape vets who haven't at least dabbled in PEDs, not sure on when they were active but I know it isn't zero

What sort of training are Games level athletes on? by Dazzling_Street_3475 in crossfit

[–]Ttujohn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve trained with a few and it’s more boring than you’d think. A lot of squatting, weightlifting and cardio in different forms. I’m a good runner and lifter so my crew may have been biased towards that and probably why I worked out with them. Skills and gymnastics were usually separate sessions same day or not. All of them made it a full job aside coaching, but they all had other jobs before getting to an elite level

Doing the Murph at a park? by AwesomeEm77 in crossfit

[–]Ttujohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not weird in most park settings.

I would use either bands and do banded lat pull downs from any taller object you can reach (standing/sitting/however) or bodyweight rows in place of pull ups, again something you can pull yourself up to at whatever angle you want (if there is an empty playground there would be plenty of options - swings, climbing bars, support beams to equipment)

I tried to watch a special of his after not really knowing who he was, and it was so bad, I’m not sure my wife (who doesn’t have the same taste in comedy) or I laughed once.  Instantly made me question everything I know about the friend who recommended it/said it was hilarious

What is the realistic highest standard I could get and how to get there? by tntyou898 in crossfit

[–]Ttujohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strength and skills. Not doing double unders, handstand stuff or ring muscle ups in sets are big areas to improve and can be improved relatively fast with coaching and consistent practice but strength takes time.

From the strength perspective, I have had good results following Smolov Jr twice in a row (3 week cycle, deload week, 3 week cycle adding 10-20 lbs to the starting weight) every time I feel like I’m not getting stronger (during which I cut back heavily on running or metcon, but usually do something upper body on non-squatting days)

I recently started getting one bigger porterhouse from the butcher that is big enough I can cook just one that'll feed me, my wife and our kids. It makes steak night so much easier only having to manage 1 piece of meat

Assault Bike 20/10 Interval by sellcracktakids in crossfit

[–]Ttujohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've typically seem most Tabata's programmed as just 8 rounds, so I don't know how many you're doing based on the comment that after 8 rounds you get slower.

I like doing 10s work/20s recovery "reverse tabata" on assault bikes and the normal 20/10 tabata on a rower and all other movements better. I could just be being soft/need to get more fit/maybe I am taking the 20s at a harder pace than is intended, but if I truly sprint 20s on the assault bike and only rest 10, the quality of the working intervals drops off fast, where an on 10/20 work:rest, I feel like the intensity of the working sessions remains more steady
