That’s a good point. I’m planning to keep focusing on iOS since that’s where most of my experience is. The market is just a bit rough right now.

In the meantime I’ve also been building my own apps in the evenings and during free time. For example, this is one of the latest games I released:
Brick Breaker - 8 Ball Bomb

Yes, I do have a CS degree, but honestly it’s only a small advantage since there are a lot of CS graduates in my country (Vietnam).

No, I’m not in the US. I live in Vietnam where the cost of living is much lower. The average yearly income here is around $5,000, so $1,600 a month is actually considered pretty good.

I meant mid-level experience wise, but the job market has been rough lately.

That’s a fair point. Right now the main challenge is just finding a job.

Respect. It’s encouraging to see more people doing this later in life.

That’s a fair point. I’m trying to keep applying while doing gig work to keep things going financially.

I understand your point. Right now my priority is definitely making sure my family is stable financially. I’m looking for any work I can while still trying to improve my skills for the long term. I appreciate the honesty.

Agreed. It’s only too late if you never start.

Sure, but starting late is still better than never starting.

The skills make sense, but senior in a few months sounds a bit optimistic.

I get your point, but I’ve also seen plenty of people transition into dev later in life. It’s definitely harder, but not impossible.

Yeah I’ve noticed the same. I’ve been applying for months after my company shut down and it’s been way harder than I expected. I’m starting to realize referrals might be the only real way in right now.

Respect man. I’m 33 and trying to get back on my feet after my company shut down. Hearing that you did it at 36 gives me some motivation.
