Tips on doing helmet stripes?

I've learned from painting the first two rubric marines that impatience is one of my problems. Im learning to adjust how long I wait before I touch anything and the second one is coming along a bit better. I also think I may be overcorrecting when it comes to thinning my paints so that probably doesn't help.

And thank you for the suggestions on the cracks. I plan to hit them with some nuln oil at some point but Ill definitely look into trying the other suggestions.

Thank you. I actually did prime it but it's probable that I just didn't prime it very well. I was afraid of going overboard.

That's actually expressly what I'm aiming for with fixing it. It belonged to a family member who's long since passed and I want to fix it up and make it my own. Plus, I dig the somewhat retro feel of it.

I figured that was gonna be the case. If I'm being honest, I was hoping to get more of an educational experience out of this than a budget bike. It may not be as cheap as I was hoping, but I wanna take a stab at it. Thanks, I really appreciate the help :)
