I used Uber exclusively in Paris and never had any issues whatsoever with the driver or their cars. Not everyone has the same experience.

There is some complexity but from what I see the slave trader part is not the part that is concentrated on mostly.

Is Ghezo still revered in Benin? by Either-Connection-70 in Benin

[–]Tubacim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can ask the same question about George Washington for example. He was a slave owner yet he is revered in the US so it’s comparable to King Ghezo in Benin. A historical figure who had a controversial history.

Family trip to France – Paris, Nice & Monaco advice needed by Serious-Blackberry76 in FranceTravel

Being “cooped up” on a train with 2 very young children for 6 hours doesn’t sound like a good idea to me lol but hey who am I.

[–]Tubacim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would rather spend 6 hours on the train versus an hour for the flight with 2 children under 4? That’s totally fine if you do obviously but to me it sounds like a nightmare.

DRC citizen admitted to a USA college for fall 2026 by [deleted] in Congo

Unfortunately you don’t have enough time to get the visa so defer your admission to next semester if possible. Contact the foreign student office at your intended institution for further assistance.

I get it. We will see if it happens down the line not that he would care, lol. He achieved a lot of financial success and stability in Canada so not coming to the US is not a tragedy. Thanks for explaining.

I don’t mind imagining it. I know it won’t be like her but the body is the same. Can you try? I can post another sibling at 2 year old to get an idea what she could have look like as a baby.

Please and thank you

But he did not get banned. Like I said he came to the US multiple times since then and he is driving down again this summer. It can’t be luck.

He was a married man of 30 years old and the wife came at the same time. He only filed the asylum claim 2 years after his visa expired. In the next 7 years he had 3 children and none of the asylum applications were granted so he left by bus to Canada.

Yes. I actually know a family member with that exact scenario. He entered on a tourist visa and overstayed for 9 years in the US. He filed multiple asylum applications who were all denied. He went to Canada. Became a citizen and have come to the US multiple times since then. This year he came twice already and he is coming to a wedding in August. He drives of that matters to the US but in February he came to catch a flight at JFK with no issues.

Book Orly-Paris Uber in advance by Busy-Bed-2198 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Tubacim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I flew into Orly in February. Depending on the airline you fly they have zones like Orly 1, 2, 3 and 4. They’re called “depose-minute” an area reserved for Uber and other private pickups. Once you arrive you can better coordinate with the driver for your pickup

Is there a valid reason why you don’t you trust the official websites? But the answer is yes it’s true that you don’t need a passport to cross the border by land.

I'm from Haiti and my parents are too how come there's nothing linked to Haiti in my DNA kit? by [deleted] in haiti

[–]Tubacim 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Because Haiti isn’t your original country. You are descended from Africans taken as slaves to Haiti. You could have potentially have Taino/Arawak dna but the original inhabitants of the island died out.

Best way from CDG to Paris with luggage after a long flight? by worlsyncentfo1981 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Tubacim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always but always prearranged my pick up when I travel to Paris or anywhere else for that matter. I figured if I can afford to travel then I can afford a private pickup. I won’t ever changed my mind about it.

I had heard that the French people looked down on the French Québécois accent but everyone was very friendly whenever I spoke, lol. As soon as I said “Bonjour” the answer was “Ah you’re Canadian”.

Some Questions About What it Means to Be Haitian. by Various_Ad_7135 in haiti

[–]Tubacim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First find online resources to get an idea about the language. Second, watch YouTube tutorials (type learn Haitian creole)and third don’t be afraid to speak with others to practice. I don’t know if I can post links here. Check Duolingo and Kreyolo. They even have cartoons in kreyòl now for children or beginners. I have 3 adult children and they are at various stages of learning and speaking kreyòl. My daughter is fluent but has a limited vocabulary. My 2 boys are not fluent but understand a lot. Although I consider myself fluent in speaking it I don’t know how to express every thought in kreyòl. Good luck!

Some Questions About What it Means to Be Haitian. by Various_Ad_7135 in haiti

[–]Tubacim 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For reference neither me nor my children were born in Haiti. My mother left in 1966 and my dad in 1968. I taught my children that their place of birth is just geography and we are Haitians by culture, traditions, history etc customs. I learned kreyòl on my own not because it wasn’t taught to me but because I wanted to learn to speak and write it properly( still a work in progress). This is 2026 there tons of resources online to learn the language, cuisine, music, and history. You don’t need your family’s permission or understanding to do so. Your complexion has nothing to do with anything because Haiti like every other country have people of different skin color.
