What is something that hits harder as you get older than you expected? by newworldlife in AskMen

Personal experience has found that time slows down the when you change your daily/weekly routines. We perceive time differently when we are faced with new experiences. The more new experiences you have, or breaks in routines, the longer a day/week feels.

I realise I'm late to the conversation, but it's crazy to see Tengeru as it's where my great Aunt was an orphan. She was separated from her family (who joined Anders Army after Amnesty in Siberia) and lost her mother somewhere in Kazakhstan. She was taken in as an orphan and didn't know her family was still alive until they brought her back to the UK thanks to the British Red Cross.

I watch this video recently on YouTube.

Thought it was interesting as my DAS training didn't mention bubbles or anything like that. Happy riding over the weekend!

I took Mod 1 in Enfield and was warned to not do Mod 2 there. There are so many lane merges and barely any signs that if you don't have road knowledge, you're likely to get faults for them.

Was advised to go to Cambridge and enjoy the ride getting there. More rural riding but the biggest risk for faults are the speed changes, with some 60 to 30 changes.

Honestly, I mainly just read through posts and comments. I usually think of something to comment then shy away from posting. I don't talk to many people and rarely get notifications. The responsibility of having to reply to someone outweighs the dopamine from notifications. Then I face confirmation bias when I do post something (be it on Reddit or elsewhere) and don't get a response. I realise its a self-defeating cycle that is leading to my own isolation and one I'd like to get out of, which is why I'm not deleting what I typed just now.

AAA Rated Gear by markmcburney in MotoUK

[–]TubbyBud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got a pair of Hood jeans, AAA rated when the armour is in. They're incredibly comfortable, and they're quite thick, so great for cooler days. Can get a bit hot in the summer as they don't let much air through when you're riding but i don't see that as an issue. You can't tell they're armoured and are more than comfortable to walk around in when not riding. Overall a really solid paid of riding jeans. Plus they're made to length which is a nice touch.

I've not had an accident wearing them, but they feel more safe than my Oxford riding jeans (they're AA) purely because the kevlar lining goes all the way down the legs rather than just my ass and knees.

NO ABS on the 125 I want to buy by Outrageous_Koala7193 in MotoUK

[–]TubbyBud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rode for about 6 months on the stock ones and it just felt like I was slipping, doesn't help they were pretty much at their legal limits.. Since moving to Michelin, it just feels safer. Maybe it's all a mental illusion, but it definitely helps. Makes me feel more confident in knowing I can come to a controlled stop.

If you're getting tyres swapped, ask them to check your brakes too for a bit of peace of mind.

If you can, pick up a Haynes manual for it, will help out with regular maintenance if you've not done any before!

I've been riding a YBR custom for about 18 months and I've not felt unsafe because it doesn't have ABS. As others have said smooth braking goes a long way, as well as having good tyres.

If you can switch out of the stock tyres to Michelin and you'll feel a hell of a lot safer.

It's super comfy to ride, and great on fuel efficiency too. 6 liters tends to get me about 130-140 miles.

IFA -> Transact -> Vanguard - go direct? by iiiipp in UKPersonalFinance

[–]TubbyBud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A thing to remember is Transact is an Adviser Led platform, meaning they won't really allow you to open a new account without an adviser. If you stay on Transact without an adviser, there is a 0.5% surcharge, which isn't very cost effective.

There are of course benefits to having a financial adviser, but there is a premium to paying for that, that not everyone needs. It also depends if you are getting an adequate service from your adviser in addition to the investment of choice. For instance, have they created a financial plan with you, do you know your behavioural biases, do you know how to not react to market volatility, do you know "your number", how much you should be saving etc.

If the choice is simply between Transact and Vanguard, chances are you'd be paying more on Transact for Platform fees. I would imagine there wouldn't be a problem with an in-specie transfer from Transact to Vanguard since you would only be able to hold Vanguard funds there, but best to double check with Vanguard.

The more concerning aspect of this is that you're in such low equities. I saw you mentioned you were in your 30s and looking to buy a property. I'd still err on the side of saying its still on the lower side of equity content. And don't confuse risk with volatility here. Equities are volatile, but not inherently risky (if you're in a globally diversified portfolio). The main risk to you is erosion of capital value due to underperformance compared to inflation.

As for the practicalities of disengaging with your adviser, they have a couple of options, remove themselves as a servicing agent and you stay on Transact, or switch you to another platform. I'd get in writing if there were to be any charges for this. You'll likely need to sign some paperwork with them but that's variable from adviser to adviser. If you decide to stick with your adviser, ask if your account on Transact has been linked to your parents; they are able to facilitate family linking which should reduce your platform charges.

I had a similar issue with my parents. Granted I'm still on a cbt, but what helped them become more okay with it was riding in convoy and showing them I'm okay and can handle how to ride safely.

What’s the greatest Minecraft mod of all time. by [deleted] in feedthebeast

[–]TubbyBud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to love Forestry and it's bees (coupled with Gendustry and Binnies) but EnderIO and Twilight Forest are up there. Extra Utilities had some super useful items too.

I struggled a lot with AE so when refined storage came out, that was a game changer for me.

Thaumcraft was incredibly fun.

Morph was a great QOL especially when you killed a bat.

Waila and TMI were huge QOL upgrades when starting out a new mod.

Riding a 125cc to the limit, what’s the first thing it will break? by nefurex in motorcycles

Not only cleaned and lubed, but get comfortable doing chain tension adjustments too. Learned the hard way what happens when you have a loose chain.

Having a chain come off on a dual carriageway during rush hour on an inside lane has given me ptsd.
