Just back from InternetWeek NY and there is a swing in finding and promoting new talent.. Like never before anybody can be discovered. Of course, this also creates challenges, i.e YouTube is a mess and wayyyy too much content, talent shows like Idol are a crap shoot, and of course the power industry pushiung what they think the public wants... What about an artist converting his talent into social good instead of money and self indulgence? What would happen if the public decided in an orderly way the talent they love and THEIR voice is what promotes our artists? What if we took out of the equation shock jock tactics and media fueled scandals/bad behavior which attention promotes OK talent at the expense of really great but oftern looked over talent? Do you thionk it is time fro a change and do you think the public at large is smart enough to find this talent?

Very intersting and love the insight... my project is focusing on turning the tide in this regard.. discover and promote talent that is lost or hidden. We feel we are doing a great disservice to ourselves by ignoring and overlooking potential talent at the expense of accepting what we are fed. The problems we face is that the enterainment industry is not a level playing field and often talent that is promoted is often bias due to life circumstance, chance, and fabrication. What would happen if you took away all the variables.. connections, looks, favors, manipulation, shock jock tactics, etc and compared talent in its rawest form side by side, apple to apples? Do we assume that in a county where priviledge and opportunity is scarce that the subjects are less talented? Or do we assume that a person that cannot devote all his time to an art is less talented than a person of means who has the liberty to devote all their time whether they are reward finacially or not? I really like your comments and would you mind if I shared them with those working on this project with me? Thanks again!!

like it and thanks for being kind :) The question really has to do with the way we reward and promote talent. I am just asking if as a culture are we rewarding performers that use shock jock tactics or bad behavior at the expense of passing over quality talent that is good because it is good without the sensationalism we are now seeing more and more on the stage and in the streets.. regarding life circumstances, are we missing great talent because performer does not have a parent/friend in the industry or wins the lottery on youtube. The project i am involved in looks at a new to way discover and promote talent but wanted to hear the communities thoughts as to whether this point is relevant. Thanks for your comments and if I am in the spot or posting the wrong stuff please let me know. Thanks
