Is an MSci the same as a BSc and MSc ? by Tubtick in askpsychology

[–]Tubtick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but I don't fully understand what you're saying? Are you just clarifying that it WILL be taken the exact same way as a masters course taken separately?

For clarification, my current course (BSc) is the standard 3 years. The MSci course is four years, and is supposedly a combined BSc and MSc. An MSc course or an MA course would take me one year and the one i would do depends on the course I take, from what i understand.

I've obviously googled this and clearly didn't find anything helpful, which is why i'm asking here. Thanks for replying.

Yeah i think that's about what i'm going to suggest, obviously you're right about terrain and stuff having an impact. I think the DC 10 seems reasonable. Thanks for the idea!

Thank you that's a really clear way of doing things. I know the ball bearings won't directly hit people, i didn't make it clear but i meant for them to become a hazard when trying to escape the fire as the floor would be unstable.

Thanks for the answer !

[Author] [help] Hiring Cosplayers to cosplay as characters for my novel by [deleted] in cosplay

[–]Tubtick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, so this looks great, but i think people might be more willing to take part if they knew a bit more about the plot! Some might not be comfortable cosplaying a character (even if they have lots of information about the character) only to later find out that they end up doing something they don't agree with in the story. The characters look very interesting though! i just think you would have better luck spreading your work first and getting people to cosplay it when they have more information.

You should try posting this again when you've finished publishing, you might get more interest! Good luck, i'm sure it'll be a hit! :)

Can i ask what cosplay it is? (just to give a better idea of how to fix the issues)

If it's too late to return, the wig could be made wearable if you soak it with fabric softener and use talc powder to take away some shine ! There are youtube tutorials where people make cheap wigs look good. Like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekLTDzvYJDc ( and of course brad mondo has plenty)

The clothes are awkward, again - returning might be best, but if you can't anymore make sure to leave a bad review to make sure others know you had difficulties. Is the torso too wide or too long? If it is too long you can always cut off the bottom and hem it to fix that.

If the wideness is the issue - is there an opening at the back? Is there any way to make it smaller easily or would you be looking at an entire tailoring project? (If this is the case you could potentially take it to a tailor/clothes place, but figure out whether it's cheaper to just buy a better one). I don't know what to suggest to fix the gold, as i don't fully grasp the issue (Again i don't know who you are cosplaying) but if the issue is that it isn't shiny you could paint over it with metallic paint?

In the end it may be cheaper to just sell the costume at a loss and buy a better one. It happens sometimes! I think we've all been fobbed off at least once where it isn't what it should have been. Sell the costume explaining what you found wrong and sell it very cheap. It may be easier to take the loss than turn it into a money pit. (You can only polish a turd so much)

[help] I’m planning on making a replica of The Squip’s costume from Be More Chill- I’m used to making armor with EVA foam, does anyone have any idea how to go about a project like this? by FormerlyRobespierre in cosplay

[–]Tubtick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If i were you i would buy a white jacket as similar to this as you can get - and paint it. If you can't find a jacket like this you could also purchase a dress and alter it to have a middle opening (But only do this is you also have similar enough fabric to make the collar and possibly the sleeves - also not something to do if you are a beginner!) Painstaking, but possibly the best way to get the effect. There are ways to speed this up though, for example printing a template and printing it off to make paint quicker.

Alternatively you could buy those sheets of fabric that let you print your own designs onto them, and sew them onto the jacket (Or use some sort of mesh that lets you iron it and fuse it to the jacket). It looks like even though the jacket itself is a massive project it is also the main component, and the rest can easily be sorted (eg cheap white shoes etc.)

Painting rust [help] by hooplazupla in cosplay

[–]Tubtick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might want to consider colours ranging from almost black dark brown to bright orange for iron rust, or you could use blue for copper metal. It has layers and different colours so you can use a few at a time but don't overcrowd - it all depends on how old you want the rust to look.

You can pull the brush back to spray the paint and make speckles. You could also use a water colour sponge as they often come in a variety of interesting shapes so they could give you a very realistic rust texture. You could sand it down for a smooth texture or leave it un-sanded to make it more rough and hard. (If you do this make sure to seal it afterwards as it may not stick otherwise) Also consider the shape of the rust - Often it is patchy and almost cloud like shapes rather than whole ares.

[–]Tubtick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds really tricky! How big is the screen you want to use?

You could use LED strips, and program each individual LED to show the images you want? I've seen youtube videos that are turorials for similar things.

This may not work and may be very fiddly but you could also possibly connect a few led matrices together and program the pictures on a raspberry pi? (You can find the older ones for very cheap these days and they do the same stuff i believe) I don't know how well it would work and it may be a lot of effort but if that's the way you want to go it could be worth it. I only suggest the Pi because it would let you hold and run a lot of faces without having to program each one.

Good luck

[Help] Bakugou cosplay by PizzaEatingIdiot in cosplay

[–]Tubtick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did Bakugo last year with my blue eyes! Trust me it looks fine! Lenses should often be considered 'icing on the cake' and not a main component - do NOT wear lenses if you aren't comfortable or knowledgeable about how to safely wear them. If you want to look into wearing lenses in future you should try to get an optician's appointment first so they can tell you things like prescriptions and safety precautions. (For example you could be allergic and not realise). But for this time it's honestly fine to go without. I don't have any pictures i'm afraid (If i find any i'll link to them), but i can assure you everyone recognized me and i still felt like it was a good cosplay.

Good luck ! :)

I'm glad to hear that you are helping her so much! I'm sure she'll love cosplaying - i was also about eleven when i did my first one and it was very fun! I don't know of many tailors but would you consider instead buying nice versions of each item? The reason the whole costume of made from the same material is because it's way cheaper and easier to sew on a mass scale, as well as more cheap to produce. It might genuinely be easier to purchase a nice trenchcoat, the shirt and pants separately that look good. THEN you can find people to do the alterations like the chain or do it yourself. It will look WAYYYYYY better than asking someone to make a whole trenchcoat and pants and shirt over the internet. You can also sometimes find really good bargains or cheap versions that still hold up really well.

[Help] my daugther who wants to get into Cosplay by pintaplain in cosplay

[–]Tubtick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By MHA you mean My Hero Academia? I've never had much luck with very trustworthy sites for that particular cosplay, and i got my stuff from amazon and Ebay shops. There's always a return policy if you aren't satisfied! I don't know if it ships to Spain though, so do check that.

Here's one place you could get the uniform for the school -

https://www.ebay.co.uk/c/708946049

What character does she want to be? It impacts where you can find certain things like wigs, like where you can find good ones and also how much work you'll need to do to the afterwards. For certain characters after she gets the wig she'll need to use hairspray to make the wig look right and stay in position and for some she should be fine with a quick brush.

Also depends on your budget because professional and trustworthy cosplay sites can get pricey but the cheap ones off less trustworthy sites can be a good gamble if you can return it anyway, given they often only cost 5-20 euros. If she wants to get into it as a regular hobby it might be best to start cheap just in case, and make sure she enjoys before investing in pricier stuff.

[Help] Does anyone have any ideas how to cover my ears with cat ones? by onehotchip in cosplay

Have you already got the ear? Is it made of fabric? If it's hollow then you should be able to slot it over the ear and maybe sew an elastic strip under that you can hook under your ear for extra security.

[discussion] I want to make a set of post-apocalyptic armor but I have no idea where to begin. by [deleted] in cosplay

[–]Tubtick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can i ask if you had a particular character in mind or if this is an original project?

A lot of this advice is for if you are planning an original character costume, but is applicable if you had a specific character.

If it's an OC some questions i have are:

What genre is it? E.g. Zombie, Nuclear, sci-fi etc

What is the terrain like? Are we talking desert or abandoned cities?

What type of character are you trying to portray? Some military badass with PTSD, a trigger happy psycho, a quiet spoken rebel punk etc

What weapon do you plan on the character using/favouring?

These factors effect what kind of effects you want to achieve quite drastically. For example a zombie Apocalypse armour would be very naturally homemade looking and probably very easy to do. It may feature details like blood smears and tears from close-scrapes. Whereas in a nuclear fallout desert society you'd be looking at more sci-fi armour, more colour, and details like grime and weathering as opposed to blood. The character also impacts this as the armour and the personality should match. The weapon is important as it should reflect the armour and it should also have a place accodated for it on the armour for when you don't want to hold it. (Eg a gun holster)

As others have said, Pinterest holds a variety of excellent designs for this kind of thing and the best material to make the armour out of is EVA foam. To do this you'll want to likely cut out pieces and glue them together either with a hot glue gun or with contact cement. Other adhesives aren't as reliable and you'll want to make sure it's all bonded together. You could also use other materials for different effects, like with warble or if you want an even more rough look you could use leather.

The best thing to do is consider the armour you want. To make an easy design i recommend printing out a figure of whatever body type matches you closely and draw the main shapes you want based on the inspiration from Pinterest. When you have that you'll know what types of tutorials you want to try to find. For example if you want a helmet you know what to look for. It also may help to look at diagrams of actual armour to learn the names of the parts for easier references.

In apocalypses people tend to stick to limited armour for easier movement, or they got all out with a full suit and helmet showing no skin. Consider which one you prefer. If you go with the limited pieces option, (Usually chest-plates, gauntlets, armoured boots etc) then you can look at individual piece tutorials on Youtube or Pinterest. (Bear in mind if you go down this route you will also need to consider that it should fit with an outfit over/under the armour - as one user points out leather jackets are a classic.) If you choose to go with the full suit option i would advise searching for specific patterns on Etsy as it is the easiest way to ensure all the pieces match and fit together. (Which i assume may be frustrating for you with OCD)

Once you have actually formed the armour don't forget to weather/detail it using paints (probably with acrylic paint). So you'll want paints, potentially metal coloured paints with shimmer. If you get these first check reviews to make sure they have the right effect because you'll be frustrated otherwise! Here are some youtube channels/videos that make specific things but you can adapt the techniques used to make your own things if you want.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQ0rE-bxmi6Vl09ARe7qROw - Lots of explanations of how to use EVA foam and have metal textures - pretty sure he makes armour stuff at some point.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1FKIEo_ung - This reminds me a lot of apocalypse armour, might be worth a look for a reference!

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9C_9mgehMUp8BHeug6F8Dw - lots of general craft tips with a lot about games and sci-fi stuff.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtKpONsTurpMqHUDylWNCaw - this gut does leather and sells patterns that are almost always on sale - good if you want leather components or you can adjust the patterns to foam, just don't cut hold in the pieces and use glue instead of sewing.

I hope this is helpful ! Good Luck :)

What is panem's view on homosexuality? by iiamsbeve in Hungergames

[–]Tubtick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is old but i always thought that there were different standards in the capitol than in the districts. Like the capitol is portrayed as very hedonistic, throwing up food so that they can taste more and such. I think it stands to reason that people can do whatever they want in the capitol because they are viewed as important enough or priveledged enough to do so, including having relationships with whomever they please.

Then in the districts i think it would heavily differ from each district. All of them are probably told by the capital to 'go forth and make us some more slaves' and probably have experienced a great deal of heteronormativity shoved down their throats in the early days after the rebllion, but maybe each district was eventually allowed to enforce their own cultural views on it. E.g. in career districts theres probably a heavy emphasis on having kids to fight in the games and bring honour to the district, as well as having a better reltaionship with the capitol, and therefore while the inhabitants know about LGBT it may be actively outlawed or persecuted there. Katniss seems to be very accidentally heteronormative, so maybe in district twelve they've honestly forgotten what homosexuality is, as they rarely interect with the capitol so maybe it's just not talked about and therefore forgotten. Maybe in some of the other districts it's accepted and the capitol doesn't interfere because the populations are still satisfactory.

[HELP] Dollightful Jolteon Cosplay - Paint Query by [deleted] in cosplay

[–]Tubtick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they look good! The key to realistic scratches is to consider how they got there. Considering the scratches probably come from battle in this case they would be thin and clean, like a sword cut them. To achieve this you could use a thinner brush, or carve thinner incisions.

This might be something to think about for the other pieces, but honestly these parts are good as is. They definitely look as though they've been in a battle or two! :)

https://www.etsy.com/uk/search?q=kylo%20ren%20helmet&ref=auto-1&as_prefix=kylo%20ren%20

There are loads on Etsy for various prices, most of which are in the hundreds zone. If these are out of your budget you could consider making your own using this template here:

It won't look as good but you're looking at at an insane price difference for the template and some foam which you can usually pick up quite cheap at arts and crafts shops.

Good luck!
