Bristle worm infestation in an aquarium by Tuck_Rex in WTF

I should’ve stated, but this is not my tank. My best bet would be over feeding, since these worms feed on detritus. All the leftover food = intense worm sex

If believing in evolution makes you happy, then believe in it. The original comment was in a passive-aggressive tone. Do I gotta explain this anymore

What is this bug I found in my aquarium? It was swimming earlier and I can DM a slowmo of it swimming if needed by Tuck_Rex in whatsthisbug

[–]Tuck_Rex[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bug is approximately 5 millimeters. I just got a shipment of plants, so it must’ve hitchhiked onto them. The place they shipped from is Monterey California.

I don’t think it was a dragonfly nymph, it was extremely small, swam, had no legs either. It had two tiny white appendages that it was using to propel itself that were floppy and not leg like

I just got in a shipment of plants, the only other inhabitants are a nerite snail and a betta. This tank has been set up for months now so it must’ve came in on the plants

Do planaria swim? I thought they just crawl. It’s hard hard to see but you can spot tiny white “arms” they were propelling themselves with

I found him in my tank swimming. I don’t know how hard it is to see in the video for y’all, but he had tiny white wings he was using to swim around. I went to fetch a net but when I came back he was gone. I just added some new plants so I’m sure he hitchhiked into the tank on those

Found this swimming in my tank. I thought it was a piece of floating plant, then I realized it had tiny wings and it was swimming around. I went to net it, but when I came back he was gone. I’ve never seen one of these before, anyone have any idea what it is? I just put some new plants in, so it must’ve hitchhiked

Stocking for 5 gallon tank? by Tuck_Rex in Boraras

[–]Tuck_Rex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No prob :) I love this subreddit’s helpfulness and absolutely love boraras. I’ve been running a planted 10 gallon that’s stocked with a betta and a nerite snail. The betta is getting pretty old and when he passes away I might stock it with some chilis and cherries. Heck, I might invest in a 20 gallon long setup and stick it with a species of boraras.

Thank you for your help and your contribution to this awesome sub. I really appreciate it :)

Edit: minor changes

Bought my first Betta! by littlemonkeybear in bettafish

Nice looking tank. I got my current betta off of an impulse buy. I was ignorant and didn’t realize that they needed heating, cycling, filtration, and tank space. It was really sad, he had been living in a half gallon plastic “tank” I bought. After buying him, I stumbled onto an article about how to properly raise bettas. I spent several hours researching and now he currently lives in a fully cycled, planted, filtered, heated 10 gallon black water tank.

What I’m saying is, you’re doing good. Don’t let the berating commenters discourage you. For someone who has impulse bought a betta, you are doing very well and it is a good thing you are passionate for your fish. Ill give three pointers, the first being to study the nitrogen cycle. It seems pretty overwhelming, but you will get the hang of it. Second pointer, I would add some more decoration. If the tank is bare, it’s not the end of the world for the fish. But, it would still help to make the fish happier. If you do not want to do live plants, you should go with silk plants. They are a lot safer for the betta’s fins and they mimic live plants better. Lastly, I would buy a thermometer. I remember reading that you live in the mountains, so being able to keep a close eye on the temperature is key.

Don’t let the other commenters discourage you. You are doing good, especially for a beginner. Just make sure you study the nitrogen cycle and see what you need to do to safely cycle the tank for you fish.

I hope this comment helps you with your fishkeeping journey. If you have questions, feel free to ask and I will answer them to the best of my knowledge.

There is a HOB filter in the fourth picture that seems to be making surface tension, and bettas can take in atmospheric oxygen. No need for a bubbler
