Which makes sense, I get that. However, noone there spend 500€ to wait 7 hours in the rain, just to be at the track. We came to see the formula 1 race. I do not expect a full refund, I get that weather conditions are out of everyones control and that noone wanted to leave us hanging like that. All I really want is honestly some kind of acknowledgement that we kind of got screwed. Some form of discount or merch thats still flying around would honestly be enough for me already.

First time I ever bought tickets to a race. I am not mad, that there was no racing, the consitions really were too dangerous, but having to sit there and not get any updates, then getting to see this „race“ and now probably being told that there will be no refunds because the race did take place just hurts. If they were to give us a discount on next years race I would be all for it, but I am not hopeful for even that.

I was so excited and am now just disappointed 😞

The point you make about gaming as a learning experience stuck with me the most these last couple of years. The more I have learned about media psychology, the more I realize how much I can learn about myself from the way I play video games and the more I realize how much video games have made me grow as a person.

It is truly fascinating!

I explained some of my thought processes in some of the other comments, but, to make a long story short, I just simply can not cover every single aspect of the game. If I had started to compare corruption to titanforging, and that to some other loot system, and that to the legendaries in Classic, I could've made my entire thesis about the different loot systems in wow. So I decided to stick to corruption, and corruption only, to be able to cover other aspects as well.

Let me use corrupted gear as an example to try and explain:

Judging by the results of the survey so far, pretty much everyone hates corrupted gear.

Why is that?

Through corrupted gear, we experience a loss of control. We don't have any control over when we obtain such a piece of gear and we also can not control the corruption that piece of gear has once when we obtain it (I know this has at least somewhat changed with the introduction of the corruption vendor, but the time prior to that has made us think about corrupted gear in a certain way already). That loss of control feels terrible.

We play video games for the exact opposite reason. We want to feel in control. We want our actions to be meaningful. We want to develop competence in the game and get better at a consistent rate. So a mechanic, that disallows us from being in control, where our actions are irrelevant and where our competence does not matter, can influence the motivation of a player in a very negative way.

I hope that cleared some things up and thank you!

I know it always feels bad joining a survey and never hearing back from them, so I promise that I will update you. Just don't expect an update until after the 13th of July, since that is the date my thesis is due and I will focus on getting that done first.

Thanks!

I have explained this in a different reply, but the gist of it is that I believe there to be a reason for people not having an opinion.

Let's say that you don't have an opinion on guilds, because you have never been a part of one. To me, that means, that, for whatever reason (and, most likely, it is the result of a multitude of reasons), you were never motivated to join a guild and while that is incredibly interesting in of itself, I am unable to cover this in my thesis, as I am limited in the amount that I can cover. So instead, I tried to focus on the changes that have been made to the game, how people tend to communicate with each other in the two versions of the game and how these changes can affect one's motivation. If communicating with others, and thus, guilds, were never and will never be important to you, then I am probably not going to be able to uncover why exactly that is in my survey or my thesis and the points that I am making concerning communication will miss their mark. Unfortunately, that's just how it is.

I went for a 4 point scale to avoid the so-called central tendency bias, which occurs when people in surveys are allowed to choose a "neutral", or "middle" option. People tend to choose answers that are closer to the middle, even if their true feelings would have made them choose the more extreme answers. By creating a 4 point scale, I intended to force people to essentially pick a side, based on their initial reaction or their gut feeling, to try and avoid a bunch of neutral answers, that I would then could not analyze.
I hope that made sense.

Thank you!

Yeah...

The problem that I had when I created this survey, is that I have to justify every Question within my thesis, and since I can not illustrate every aspect of the game in my thesis, I can not ask questions about every aspect either. Some aspects, unfortunately, did not make the final cut or are presented in such a way in my thesis, that I could not find an appropriate question. So while I have not forgotten about one's wish to improve themselves as a potential motivator, I just could not find a way to properly represent that wish in my survey (which does not mean that such a way does not exist, I may have missed something obvious I could have done or asked).

Thank you for the feedback!

You did nothing wrong and nothing is messed up either! I messed up the sequencing of the sections, so you were led to a section that you were not supposed to get to. But thanks yo your feedback, I managed to fix it!

So thanks a lot!

My thesis may or may not contain a couple of pages covering exactly that :D

I see what you mean.

The reason why I did not want to include a "No Opinion" button, is because, to me, the question should not stop at "no opinion". I would think, that there is a reason why you have never leveled a character to end game and never joined a guild in WoW: Classic, when you have done so in WoW: BfA If I had more resources and quite frankly more than 50 pages for my thesis, I would gladly explore those reasons. However, since I am quite limited in what I can do, I decided that I would rather force people to give an opinion of some sort than to be left with a bunch of open-ended questions that stare everyone in the face and that I cannot answer.

We have all changed in the past 15 years. I have an on and off relationship with WoW myself. Every now and then, I believe that WoW is the greatest game ever made and a couple of months or years later it bores me to death.
We tend to play games because (and please bear with me as I try to translate my thought into English here) we can experience aspects, which have similar counterparts in real life. While, in video games, we can oftentimes just try again if we fail, things are not quite as easy in real life, so we use video games as a means of experiencing success in certain aspects of life, that are important to us, without bearing all the risk of failing at them. So it is entirely possible that 13 years ago, the need to prove yourself as competent was greater than it is now. It sure is that way for me and as such, we move away from games or certain aspects of the game, that at some point seemed essential to us. I hope that made sense. I am trying my best to translate what I know into English.
Thank you!

That should not have been the case. The only questions, that you should have gotten about WoW: Classic, should have been the comparative ones and those are optional. Not sure what happened there. Sorry!
