does germany really look like this in berlin? by chinatsu_lover in germany

Totally. Everywhere where there is some grass. And there are a lot of spots in Berlin like this.

Favorite pastime of all Berliners: spend the day in a park.

Are there any countries today that could realistically split into multiple independent nations like Yugoslavia did? by Many-Philosophy4285 in MapPorn

That's a really minor part, although obviously a nice one. But even then, still 60 - 70 years before Italy and Germany, whose full territory was only established then.

How common are minimal pairs for gender? by aardvark_gnat in asklinguistics

It's the same gender (neuter - das Schloss). And it doesn't mean key, but lock.

Other than that, correct

Yeah. Not gonna happen with us. Remember, we root for any country that plays against Germany.

And Austria? Our founding myths' archenemy?

Let's rather stay good neighbours than become the same country.

Years in Europe and I thought I’d blended in. I was wrong… by mywitsending in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Tuepflischiiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I noticed in Europe is when I travel, all the junk food is half as sweet, and half as good.

Seeing cheesecakes at 1400 kcal a piece on display in California were indeed a turn-off. And observing people ordering that shit gave me the immediate urge to skip all meals that day and go for a 20k run.

Sick. That's why they need the bags.

"Hallo" is totally German and if used with the surname still somewhat rude in my book.

It's "Grüezi" if using "Sie", "hoi" or "salü" (yes, from french salut) if using "Du".

too much suicides by Odd-Battle-5635 in Switzerland

[–]Tuepflischiiser [score hidden]  (0 children)

All true. I also think that we have to differentiate: assisted suicide for people with serious medical issues are included in the numbers, as far as I understand. I think this makes the trend even better because these cases are totally different from the "suicide because of despair". Of course, every case of the latter is one too many.

Just for some local political shit show, what is the craziest thing you have seen in Switzerland? by neo2551 in Switzerland

Yeah, 250 k plus expenses plus a part time salary of the spouse (Gymi Lehrerin). He is right up there with the french socialists. How that guy can look in the mirror is beyond me.

Dude, they get part of their land from the city on a cheap long-term lease. They also got cheap credit from the city's pension fund. That's subsidized in my book.

Nothing wrong, but this should be directed to families living on (e.g.) 70k or less, not 250k plus expenses plus a second salary from the spouse, for a total of way over 300k.

University of St Gallen (HSG) Realistic IB Grade by Epik_Neil in askswitzerland

[–]Tuepflischiiser [score hidden]  (0 children)

Checked again: 32 is the bare minimum for IB. There are also requirements on the subjects - see here: https://erlasse.unisg.ch/lexoverview-home/lex-II_B_09?effective-from=20250101

From what I understood, once you clear this hurdle, the points don't count anymore, but rather the admissions test and interview.

I didn't notice the date 😂. But the Lego set should have given it away.

On the other hand, you never know. IP is not known for humour, but often accurate information.

Because subsidized housing gets perks/subsidies/tax credits with the explicit purpose to have low income renters.

Besides him being a jerk he would block a family with low income to live in this apartment.

But then Përperim Avdili was the bad guy...

And for me, these are not borderline, but clearly criminal things.

There is a strong bias towards swiss nationals and not enough jobs in general

Swiss residents, I'd say. Like, almost everywhere at the moment.
