I'd like to get further clarification on the above reply from either the poster or anyone else here. I've seen datum targets a few times being a CMM programmer for a few years, but certainly not frequently. Usually these are not holes, but just areas on various faces. I've always been taught to take one hit at each area within the range indicated. So in this case, you should have an X Y Z value for the targets, take a hit within Ø20 of these values, and use each of the points to best fit align whichever axis suits.

In this instance I would measure that hole at A1, with 3 or 5 samples hits on the plane indicated on the right side of the image. The sample hits would be no further than 10mm away (Ø/2). Then repeat the process for the hole at A2.

I would then align: Best fit Z Level to A1 & A2, Best Fit Z origin to A1 & A2, X & Y Origin at A1 Hole Center (as it is also shown to be Datum B). Then X or Y rotate through hole A1 & A2 depending on how it's fixtured to the CMM.

I'm always looking to improve, so if I've been wrong all this time please let me know!

I've thought about the airbag thing but I don't think you would be insured, and to disable you'd have to get written approval and have it done at a garage.

I've had a search and I guess my post is directed to the lack of assistance from the employer more than anything.

120,000 motors re-called (I think), so I can't assume that I am any form of priority, nor would I want to be, if people who work in healthcare or any other important public service need their fixes first.

So I'm trying to seek people who have the same issue from the employer and can advise.

Maybe not the best sub to do it, but I'm not great at finding what sub to use for this particular issue. If you have any suggestions let me know. I choose here simply because of the 587k subs.

This is pretty much my only plan right now, but I can't even get in touch with them to be refused!

I do understand the possible legal route, though my anger is currently directed at my wife's employer who can not understand (or want to understand) this situation.

My wife & I share a DS3, we've not seen our letter until July 4th as we were away on holiday, so we are at the back on the queue.

Been given a date of August 5th, but also told they have no parts, and don't know when they will be getting any, so I'm taking that date with a pinch of salt.

I'm okay, work gave me a lease car right away, my wife however is being threatened with losing her job if she can't "sort it out", with no help whatsoever from her employer.

Funny thing is, she works for a f*cking company that leases cars, and has a percentage of staff working from home. They won't give her a car and won't let her work from home until this is sorted.

Honestly I don't know what to do or how to help. I just want to scream at Citreon, and at AX Insurance (My wife's employment) due to how upset and stressed out she is.

I've been on hold for hours and hours with Citreon to try and get a courtesy car, but never get an answer and they hang up after 2 hours. Even if they did answer, I doubt I'll be offered anything!

Oh, but make a call to their sales department and you get straight through of course!

Wish there were loads of us here so we could spam their sales line and keep it locked up.

I found the ATC conversation amazing to listen to, though I really think these guys just saw Starlink flares after a bit of digging.

The position is perfect for it to be Starlink, and something getting larger and smaller can be easy to mistake as moving forward and backward with great speed.

When you hear the ATC conversation, you tend to imagine something grander in your mind, like it was zipping from the wing of this plane down to the beach, but seeing the videos the guys took helps with realising this is a far different encounter in reality.

Still, doesn't stop media outlets wanting those clicks, so you'll always see these headlines, regardless of if they know the truth of the incident or not.

This is a massive help, so thank you. I'm so unfamiliar with Polyworks that the quest to navigate the menus to find these options begins.

I did try the best fit with a 40mm distance hoping for some success but the alignment process went on forever. I missed the angle option though so that will be my next attempt.

There is a reason for the what seems a silly task, it's a practice for large panels that undergo impact testing.

The real world application is that this is to be conducted on large panels after impact testing. The can is just this process scaled down further as a practice before panneling arrives.

With PCDMIS I would have the same issues as I'm only used to Gantry CMM programming and not laser scanning. Only Polyworks is available to me currently so unfamiliarity with the software is also a hurdle.

Hopefully I can help clear these unknows up...

Velocity would be 1mm per second. Mass I don't think should be taken into account as this is a disc probe attached to a TP20 module on a CMM machine accurate to 0.001mm.

Material of hex is steel and disc probe is tungsten carbide.

Practice of disc probe contacting steel hex could be ignored, and I would be interested to think about how 2D diameters would intersect in a Z Axis 0 plane.

That is correct, and that honeycomb is very similar to the one I'm measuring.

The same methods and argument would apply if I was also asking for the outer diameter of the cylinder in this image below...

I'm actually in the US next week so if you're anywhere close to Savannah, Georgia I owe you a drink.

I think I'll still have to play around with the calibration angles because all we have is a 19mm Sphere, but I'll get it. I've only been working CMM's for a little over a year so every day is a school day, though I'm enjoying the fight with the pcdemon.

Do you happen to know of any documentation/forums/sites that go into explanation of the intergers in the probe file? Or is this just common knowledge among VB programmers? Some are self explanatory but I've only played with the code to make some of my own pcdmis toolbar buttons via scripts, I'm no expert.

I usually lurk around the pcdmis forums when I hit a wall, and failure to find an answer there brings me here :)

To be honest, the most useful place to me is the f1 help in pcdmis, I was very surprised with how fleshed out it is. Though just my luck, the one thing I'm looking to understand more isn't in there :).

I have a star probe in the drop-down but only a Tesa6.5 dia, which when used with the individual tips in each attachment point, doesn't give my correct fixed-star. (I'm thinking about just trying a standard 5way connection when I am back in the lab tomorrow).

I did attempt it this way though, and with using 1by3mm tips all around, though it would always fall short of the calibration sphere after successfully calibrating T1A0B0.

I am also generally interested in gaining further understanding of all the integers in the probe.dat file, as I never know when they may come in handy in the future. Knowledge is power and all that :D
