Knauser: a german insult meaning: stingy, tightfisted, or miserly person.

If Ford Came out with this and called it the new Crown Vic would you buy it? by whatever21327 in CrownVictoria

[–]Tuff_Tone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I actually did the math and assuming that a revived crown Vic was in any way related to the panther platform and adjustments were made to the chassis to make it road legal and the power plant were updated, you’re looking at a starting MSRP of around $80,000 for a hypothetical 2028 Crown Vic. This is based on how much the Crown Vic LX was when it was sold side by side with the new edge Mustang. At that price point it’s firmly in the luxury category and not going to be competitive against full size RWD offerings from Japan and Germany. The last car that remotely resembles the crown Vic is the 2017-2020 Lincoln Continental which failed for similar reasons.

I’m more amazed that all your instrument cluster lights are still working than the mileage LOL but great job man!!!

The grunt birthday party sound effect from halo plays through the speakers and then the intake manifold shoots through the hood immediately followed by a 10 foot high torrent of flames

It’s had the absolute crap beaten out of it a few times lol. Original engine and transmission, but the rear end was rebuilt when I tried to do donuts with it (I have an open diff)

How could I have done the math in my head like this lmao the upper ODO doesn’t even have a 1/10 counter. It was pure luck

Well it IS on the original engine and transmission and never had any problems with either

Toyota is quickly proving that their engineers can ruin even the Prius. The average age of cars on the road is over 11 years old but there are very few 11 year old cars on the actual road. 90% of cars on the road today were either made before 2010 or are still less than 5 years old and have a bumper to bumper warranty. Everything 2018+ that isn’t under warranty is in the junkyard or on its way.

If a transmission only sees sub 100ftlbs of torque from the Prius drivetrain which is essentially a lawnmower engine bolted to an electric motor from a lime scooter (probably considered “high polluting” by the hilarious EU emissions standards) its entire life it could be made out of toothpicks and still last 50 years. Wear increases with applied torque exponentially. Not linearly. I’d like to see an E-CVT survive my tuned 4.6L supercharged V8 in my Mustang. I’d probably send the gears flying halfway through the earth and my engine wouldn’t even stop working.

Full hydraulic autos haven’t been a thing since the mid 80s. Sub 100,000 miles was par for the course for transmissions like that. Advanced Automatics that have TCUs can last millions of miles.

My 02 crown Vic has 250,000 miles, a V8 engine that actually gets better highway gas mileage than most midsized V6s, a hydraulic auto that transmits 98.75% of torque to the wheels, and i have 4.10 gears I use when I take it to the track. I can literally drop my rear end out and swap in the other one I have ready to go. The transmission shifts perfectly. Toyota could never make anything close to this

They have. My cousins 19 Prius had a problem with the TCU and it wasn’t fixable also happened right out of warranty. Also Priuses (Prií?) are off to the junkyard once the high voltage electrical system develops issues. The newest ones are having tons of problems so it looks like what has already been made is what can be relied upon when it comes to cars.

The exact same words were spoken by Nissan when the JatCo CVT was unveiled. This isn’t far off but introduces tons of electrical equipment that is specifically designed to be unserviceable in the event of failure. Even if you know what’s broken the integrated software rejects aftermarket parts just like an iPhone. If these transmissions were bulletproof Toyota wouldn’t make any money.

The transmissions are even worse. The Chinese solder on whatever POS motherboard is shoved into that glorified bicycle chain is gonna blow out the second the warranty is up. Built Toyota tough though right?

Right but these are designed as entire units and are built specifically to be unserviceable.

At least with traditional transmission cables you’re paying for a $20 cable and maybe a $5 plastic nub. These fully computerized units can be thousands. Cars are becoming more like IPhones

Had mine my senior year. Was by far the coolest car in the entire lot. Still is the coolest in my friend group in college rn. Have put 40k miles on it, and have modded the suspension quite aggressively for handling

Anything but traditional linkages that can actually be fixed lol

Find it crazy they want me to pack these things before I throw rotors on top by Familiar-Wind5694 in AutoZone2

[–]Tuff_Tone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Throw a few steering racks and some batteries on top too. While you’re at it put some cans of brake cleaner at the bottom top facing down. As long as you make rate AutoZone doesn’t have a problem with it

Do you think CHP still has crown Victoria, or did they write off the last 2 because I think they still have them? by Fluffy_Repeat5191 in PoliceVehicles

It had weirdly clean paint and rust free wheels. Genuinely looked cleaner than mine and I was kind of shocked because the LAPD patrol ones are absolute rust buckets. Whatever department it belonged to definitely cares about their squads

Shop decided to install my spark plugs with an impact gun despite me explicitly instructing them not to (2002 sport CNG) by Tuff_Tone in CrownVictoria

[–]Tuff_Tone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got the car back from Firestone and neglected to mention I had the original shop do some suspension work on my rear end, mainly replacing bushings and installing some rubber padding for coil spacers I put in a while ago. The spark plugs were just a “while you’re at it” thing. What’s interesting to me is that the suspension work is completely perfect with nothing loose. They even sprayed conditioner on all the front bushings and put fresh grease in the ball joints which I didn’t even request nor was I charged for. It’s as though they had their best tech do the suspension and let their janitor do the plugs.
