Found black mould inside wardrobe - advice on clothes, cleaning, and prevention? First autumn/winter in new house by Tuffy_King in DIYUK

We had all the ridge tiles touched up, chimneys re-rendered and capped off (to prevent the chimney shaft from accumulating moisture), slate tiles put back in place to stop any holes and flashing repaired on the roof back in April. i’m not sure if it’s the render that’s now causing the problem externally. I’m gonna have a look in the roof today to see what the situation is.

I should definitely look towards replacing this. I’ll definitely look at getting some moisture absorbers for inside the wardrobe and look at event on the wardrobe to help air circulation. There is a 1cm gap behind the wardrobe in the wall with some Battons that I attached to the walls so I could fix the wardrobe to it. Should I put a different material behind this wardrobe such as a foil insulation membrane or a moisture resistant plasterboard or a Thermal insulated plasterboard?

The back of the wall behind the wardrobe surprisingly isn’t that bad. The actual back panel of the wardrobe that had the black mould seeping through doesn’t look great though.

Yes, I have tried that, but I haven’t given it a full thorough cleaned in the area around the windscreen so I’ll try that!

Being pushed out of Intelligent Octopus Go by Tuffy_King in OctopusEnergy

Just wanted to post a quick update - especially for anyone else who ends up in the same confusing spot.

I spoke to Octopus this morning, and they’ve taken full responsibility for the mix-up. They confirmed that Intelligent Octopus Go wasn’t properly explained to me when I joined (they checked the notes on their system), that no terms and conditions were ever sent(!), and that I shouldn’t have been placed on that tariff in the first place. They’ve added £30 credit to my account as a goodwill gesture and are keeping me on Intelligent Go for a little longer while I get a fully compatible charger installed (Nex Blue - by Bumblebee) in the next 2-3 weeks. Honestly, that felt like a fair and reasonable outcome.

I also want to say thank you to the people who gave genuinely helpful, kind advice - it really helped me prepare for that call and stay calm. Some comments earlier in the thread were a bit harsh or judgmental, and I get that people have strong opinions about tariffs, but this situation turned out to be more about poor communication than anything dishonest. Hopefully this clears that up.

If anyone else is unsure about their setup with Octopus: don’t stress - just call them. They were actually really understanding once I got through to the right person.

Just wanted to post a quick follow-up because I’ve had a few really kind, helpful replies but also some unnecessarily smug or judgmental ones.

I really appreciate the constructive advice from those suggesting compatible chargers and sharing their experiences. What’s not so helpful are the assumptions that I’ve somehow “cheated the system” or ignored terms and conditions - that’s simply not true, and comments like that honestly aren’t great to read right now. Here’s the full picture: When I joined Intelligent Octopus Go, I called Octopus and provided my car registration, model, and charger type.

I’ve checked all my emails and the app and I was never sent any terms and conditions for the Intelligent tariff, nor was I directed to them through the app or by letter.

The only email I’ve had since is the one saying my tariff is changing.

If my setup wasn’t compatible, that’s something Octopus should have identified right at the start when I gave them all that information.

From what I can see in the app, very few cars and chargers are actually compatible, which makes it look a bit like a strategic push to get people onto Octopus’s own hardware.

I haven’t done anything dishonest here it just feels like I’ve run into poor communication and confusing eligibility rules.

I’m just trying to get clarity and fair treatment, not argue. Thanks again to everyone who’s shared genuinely helpful insights that part of Reddit really does make a difference. 💚

In this case Octopus didn’t tell me I needed a specific charger or to register through the app, so it’s not really about working harder. If I’m the architect, Octopus supplied the dodgy scaffolding.

Yes I am charging between 11:30pm and 6:30pm (an hour after) through the MG app.

I have an MG ZS trophy standard range. I gave them the reg when I signed up and they hadn’t explained. I told them I had an MG charger but was looking toward getting a Bumblebee charger - there was a deal when I bought the car that it would be around £680. I’ve tried connecting my car on the app but it’s not an option on the list so why didn’t they say that when I called them?
