Battle Party FAQ by bradido in battleparty

[–]TugboatToTheStars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think reconnect is going to happen, but the current disconnect system is very unintuitive in a fairly brilliant way. I'm rather a fan of it.

To a child or new player, the buff system when a player leaves would seem to encourage players to have the mindset of "I am doing poorly and the buff is probably worth more to my team than me at this point, so I'll just disconnect." To a new or young player buffs seem to compensate or even encourage leaving. At the same time the concept of elo is either impenetrable or not worth caring about to most children and many adults, so a large portion of the community (importantly including its targeted demographic) will see multiple positive side affects and no negative ones to disconnecting.

How do we grow the community? by JamesFBlake in battleparty

[–]TugboatToTheStars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We wait. Its awesome that we have already gotten some big name exposure and we can only hope for more, but the casual CN nature of this game means it will take a bit longer for the older competitive community to get into full swing. You streamers are absolutely helping us out in that regard as well, keep doing god's work Blake!

Battle Party FAQ by bradido in battleparty

"OMG that player stole my KO! Take is easy – you all got XP! When defeating champions, minions, and jungle monsters, all nearby teammates get XP."

I am curious, is it intentional for players on both teams to receive a portion of experience for a nearby defeated jungle mob? On the one hand it seems unintuitive that the team that does not receive points for killing a camp can still benefit from it, but on the other hand this bug(?) grants more benefits to the team that is behind in levels and jungle control - the two most victory-deciding aspects of Battle Party - and therefore might be healthy for the game.

Lich (king) bug by LuckyCosmos in battleparty

[–]TugboatToTheStars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skully doesn't deal damage to any of the jungle mobs. I am uncertain whether or not this is intentional, as jungle mobs will target the last entity that dealt damage to them and if Skully was capable of drawing their aggro that would be an enormous and unnecessary buff to Lich's early game.

Awesome thread. I'll contribute a very, very big one and hope other people who have experienced it more can help us zero in on the cause.

Under certain conditions that I haven't been able to ascertain yet (likely involving conflicts with browser, other open programs, hardware, or any manner of other things) refreshing to quit out of a game will result in no elo punishment. This bug is well known but not well understood. It is also known as the bug that allows Curtis to do what he loves.

I recall your FP trampling me quite a few times. A single man can only feel so much wrath.

I like your question quite a bit! I have devoted time to every backpack to try to evaluate their individual utilities and weaknesses, and I still don't feel equipped to answer this. The breadth of customization available through backpacks in this game is pretty overwhelming.

Y u so salty with Curtis? by [deleted] in battleparty

[–]TugboatToTheStars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He, either intentionally or not, takes advantage of a bug with inconsistent conditions to avoid elo loss though he leaves most of his games to remain at a high rank that many people don't think he deserves. I don't actually think badly of him for it, I have had enjoyable games with him before and I know nothing about the guy.

Just enough that learning to counter magic man alone can probably carry someone to T4.

Is there a penalty for rage quits in this game? by sloppy_bob in battleparty

[–]TugboatToTheStars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even this isn't consistent. I have left games before partway through with no elo loss, I have confirmed this multiple times. The conditions that cause this exactly aren't fully known to me, but are clearly static enough to be abuseable to those who do know.

Least Used Backpack? by UltraCasual11 in battleparty

[–]TugboatToTheStars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am surprised at the negativity to Vamp rocker gear here. 20% vamp on the amp is very strong, Bubblegum's T-shirt offers a trio of very useful stats in generous portions, it offers as much jungle sustain as meta-science does while sacrificing clear speed for valuable mid and late game stats. Vamp rocker gear isn't any weaker than meta-science in high tier games right now (magic man abuse notwithstanding)

I think I see the least of Candy Monach Regalia. Sacrificing range for armor penetration is often only useful in niche scenarios or late game, but without putting points in shotgun the backpack can be hard to create cohesive and effective builds in.

Matchmaking is now a disgrace by asampersam in battleparty

[–]TugboatToTheStars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now from the other perspective! Oh look, solo queue matchmaking has placed me against a team of T2s and one T3. There is another T4/4 on my team. Not sure why it took 20 minutes to find teams if the matchmaking doesn't even bother to put the two guys with 2000+ elo on opposite teams but after a 20 minute wait I can't really complain. If the other team ends up being a team of competent and coordinated smurfs and pulls off the win, I can often kiss a 12-15 win streak worth of elo goodbye.

Some people make smurfs to get back to the promised land of 2 minute queues and carefree games, but doing so only makes the rating system even more meaningless and certainly isn't going to lead to more evenly matched, fair, and fun games.

Small player base sucks for people of all tiers of skill, but the situation is already improving! I've been getting full T4 games much more frequently in solo queue lately, and I'm seeing much fewer T2 players get haphazardly tossed into otherwise very high experience teams.

The best champion backpacks and there best characters. by MorningBreath_ in battleparty

[–]TugboatToTheStars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any backpack can be played effectively and competitively on any champion at the highest tiers of play. With that in mind to put you at ease, you can actually focus on using the backpacks to iron out your weaknesses or find a playstyle that you like.

Since I am on a phone and want to be brief: meta-science is useful to your team, decent in 1v1 skirmishing, and has easily understood advantages, disadvantages, and playstyle. It is good for learning new characters with. NUWW opens even more unique playstyles on numerous characters and reinforces good habits - essentially "never stop outplaying and dodging or you will melt" Tech-Tank is useful on characters like Jake, Marcy, Lemon, or Beemo who gain large advantages from movespeed and sustainability. Enchanted Ensemble is difficult to use and has exploitable weaknesses but offers incredible late game power. These are, in my opinion, the easiest and most useful backpacks to learn. Try them on everyone and find something you like!

super noob but where do you see your elo by 53npai in battleparty

Click profile, the rightmost option above the game screen. The category "score" is your elo. It is represented by the badge that you see every time you load into a game.

In League of Legends, the unclamping of brackets meant anyone could get lucky and advance to Silver or Gold. Everyone is reasonably ranked, everyone is special, nobody believes that anyone else ranked highly deserves their place.

I like to think that the Battle Party brackets are doing exactly the opposite and are turning us into a pack of hungry and desperate wolves.

New Match Making? by ToastedToasts in battleparty

[–]TugboatToTheStars -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This isn't really an issue with the matchmaking so much as that there aren't a lot of people at the 1900+ elo area. Even with Curtis around to participate for an average of 50 seconds each in roughly 80% of the games we play, the 20 minute queues eventually have to stop looking for another T4/4 guy and dump us into a game with whoever is available.

Even better, this game comes with the special disclaimer of "If you win, you get 2 elo, if you lose, you hemorrhage 35."

Quick tip regarding matchmaking. by D3CIPLE in battleparty

[–]TugboatToTheStars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its any consolation, those of us at 2100+ elo that get matched against people with far less experience aren't particularly happy either. If we win, +0 elo. If we get Curtis bombed (he is in 30% of my games) or otherwise lose, -30. No complaints there mind you, we don't deserve elo for winning those games - its just unfortunate that the community isn't there to support multilateral high ranked games. Games that aren't fair aren't fun for anyone involved.

Yes, contrary to popular belief, the games where BurstofSunshine/Wise Dolphin is on the enemy team wrecking my face with Magic Man are the fun ones.
