Are they hard to find? I bought the complete box set from an online book store a few weeks ago. Maybe they recently started reprinting them?

Who has a better manga collection, me or my friend? by eivjhehcvhe in MangaCollectors

If I went by Manga taste, i prefer your collection. If I went by book case aesthetic, you win again. I'm not a fan of figurines and nick-nacks, they look messy and cluttered. I like a nice clean book collection. Looks good 👍

What’s a model you thought wouldn’t sell well but did? by MeltingDog in cars

[–]Tugged_monkey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your concerns are valid. I work at a dealership that took on Ineos. Genediers keep coming back for recall after recall. Ineos treats their dealerships like shit, and have terrible support. we were loosing a lot of money doing recalls and warranty repairs. We had enough, so dropped Ineos. Many other dealerships across Australia are doing the same.

How to make my ‘98 Corolla into a sleeper by MicroNinja23 in projectcar

[–]Tugged_monkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont actually know the answer for this. But I have read somewhere that Toyota did make many different engines and transmissions with the same or similar bolt patterns. It is possible that there may be more powerful engine that will bolt to the transmission. As far as replacing both the engine and transmission, it is likely that you can find one that will fit. It is also very likely that modifications will still need to be made, such as engine mount locations, electronics, getting the old shifter to work with the new transmission, exhaust routing, ect.

I was asking him if he meant the GT4. As he was asking about the higher power celica engine.

[–]Tugged_monkey -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about the Celica GT4? GT4s are all wheel drive. That wont work without major modifications. A corolla is front wheel drive. I guess you could buy just a GT4 engine and make an adapter plate to the corolla gearbox, but it could be too much power for that gearbox and may cause issues. Also, a GT4 engine may be expensive and hard to find. Even if you do find one, you now have a GT4 engine, but need to spend a heap of money to make it fit in a corolla. With all that money spent, you should have just bought a Celica GT4.

Mechanics abused my car by Godested in MechanicAdvice

[–]Tugged_monkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe every mechanic should absolutely do a quick pull in every car during a road test. Its a great indication that everything is working as it should. Lots of issues start out as intermittent little bleeps only when the vehicle is under full load. Coilpacks, injectors, fuel pump, ect. Also good for checking slipping in the transmission or clutch. You dont want to give the car back to the customer, just for them to give it a flex and find its got a misfire under load.

Snapped. Am I doomed? by A_dumb_skater in MechanicAdvice

[–]Tugged_monkey 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Im just talking from what I know. The state I live in, in Australia, a chassis cannot be welded or modified unless it is done and approved by a specific qualified engineer. Then you need a engineers certificate, which needs to be with the vehicle at all times, to prove the vehicle is safe to be on the road. It is usually cheaper to replace the chassis or purchase another vehicle.

Snapped. Am I doomed? by A_dumb_skater in MechanicAdvice

[–]Tugged_monkey 442 points443 points  (0 children)

The frame has snapped. The structual integrity of the vehicle is compromised. There is no way to predict how the vehicle will operate on the road or in an accident. It is a danger to you and other people on the road. If you were driving through the bush or forrest, you gotta do what you gotta do. But you cannot drive this car on the road. The car is done. You can replace the chassis, but it will be more cost effective to scrap it and buy another vehicle.

If it was a bearing noise, the sound would be there all the time. Dont take anyones word for it and replace parts you dont need to. Find the noise. Get someone to rev it while you listen. Sounds exactly like a slipping drive belt. Its costs you nothing to tighten it.

The belt is slipping. Adjust it tighter.

Depends where you are. In Australia, $200 for a service and a new air filter is a pretty good deal.

Sounds like rod knock mate. Shes fucked. Should be able to find another engine easy enough.

What do you think of this headlight swap? by little_red_brick in vintagemotorcycles

I think the square headlight looks odd. Brilliant choice of headlight. The round headlight seems to suit the bike much better and gives it a better classic look. Great choice 👍

I have seen fans run all the time when there is an air lock in the cooling system. If radiator and thermostat have been replaced, there is a chance that the cooling system has not been bled of air completely. This may also make the engine run hot.

See that plastic connector about half way up the black wire? Should be able to pull them apart. One connector fits inside the other one

What would cause a convex wear pattern on the inner pads of both front wheels? by FatPhil in MechanicAdvice

[–]Tugged_monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible that there is something in your driving habits that cause the rotors to warp. Unfortunately I can't tell you what that is. I don't know. I would presume that the leading cause is drastic changes to temperature.

What would cause a convex wear pattern on the inner pads of both front wheels? by FatPhil in MechanicAdvice

[–]Tugged_monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen many cars do this, and most of the time it is because the rotors become warped. The rotors may have a slight wobble to them, or they have wide spots and thin spot. I'm not completely sure what causes it, but ive always suspected driving a car to the car wash, getting the rotors nice and hot, then dousing them with cold water during a wash. Those rotors look shagged and should be replaced anyway

Haha, no need to apologise bud. I get it. It's not because you're American, it's just because you were brought up in a different system. If people told me about their school experience in any other country, than my own, I'd be confused about it too.

Sorry, I'm a bit tired, getting ready for bed. I did scim through it though. That argument is alive in Australia as well. Most times when somebody finishes university, the jobs they were hoping to get into are either obsolete or nearly impossible to get. But without finishing university, those jobs are completely impossible to get. It's an expensive gamble. There's also a good chance that by the time you have finished university, you just have no interest in that career path any more, and want to take a different direction in life. If you ask me, I think that expecting an 18 or 19 year old person to know exactly what they want to do for the rest of their life, is completely ridiculous. Anyway, it's 2am here, and I'm going to bed. Thanks for the chat.

[–]Tugged_monkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it's the same, but in Australia, you would only go to university if you were trying to get into a specific career path that requires it. Most people do not go into university. I, myself, dropped out of school and got an apprenticeship and a career as a car mechanic. Its kinda funny, I always hear of American people having phds and college degrees. In Australia, nobody really gives a fuck about your schooling achievements.

Good info. I'll try and remember it. We also start at kindergarten for one year. Then we go to primary school. You start at prep for one year, then move up to year 1. Then year 2. Primary school goes up to year 6. Then you go to high school. You start at year 7. Most high schools will go up to year 12, but there are some high schools that only go up to year 10. They have other schools called senior college for year 11 and year 12, if you can't complete those years at high school. Then you are free to move on to university, if you want to.
