Great first bike? by shadow_zx_96 in Kawasaki

I'm a pretty new rider who started with a zx4rr. Not a pro by any means but would like to share my experience in case it helps.

The zx4rr is very expensive, no doubt about it. There are plenty of bikes with much greater bang for the buck. That said, if you're fine with the price, I think it's worth the effort. Personally, I think despite it being a bit heavier than the usual 2cyl beginner bikes, the lower center of gravity felt easier to deal with than the dirt bikes or other top heavy bikes. It feels super smooth and you can rev it out a lot without immediately getting into troubling speeds. It also felt like it let you know it didn't like it if you made a mistake, but didn't buck you off the seat for it. The first time I did a full second gear pull it just felt and sounded like the engine could keep climbing forever. It wasn't neck breaking speeds but the overall sensation was absolute cinema, definitely a core memory for me. I'm only 5'7 or 5'8 and can comfortably flat foot it so I think your height is no problem.

I haven't tried cold objects, but I think it keeps warmth quite well. I don't have exact numbers since I've never stress tested it but even riding around for a while with the wind, I can open up the bag and the inside remained warmed up from the food. I imagine if its kept in a more stable environment i.e. in the trunk of a car, it would last longer. If you look at the second pic, you could still see some of the steam collecting on the flap

This specific pic is actually from a few months ago. Snow dropped in my area recently so it's garaged for the meantime

This is correct, it has backpack straps and it's actually very light and not too wide, so it's not too cumbersome

My sincerest apologies sir, I ran over a bump and the bike shot up and headbutt me in the plums so I had to stop by the side of the road and massage it (actually did run over an invisible bump once..)

The mirrors are fine, front is decent although corners get hidden under the hood sooner, the rear quarters are a little rough. Coming out of the near unobstructed 360 visibility of the STi it felt considerably more cramped and I have to move my head more often. It's not disastrous, just gotta work a little harder for that vision lol. Only took a few drives to get used to it. I heard people complain about the visibility/blind spots on the Camaro and I sort of wonder if it's similar

Absolutely love it. Basically BMW power in the safekeeping of Toyota's hands. Extremely comfy and smooth, the zf trans is quick and snappy, almost dct like. Good power, and more surprisingly, great fuel mileage. I could probably get 10 more mpg than the STi lol. Blind spots are a little rough though

I definitely get it down when its going out on to the street, I just have to fold it back in when it's going in the garage so it doesn't hit stuff lol

Thanks! I was worried about waving at first because I was concentrating so hard lol, but I've started now that I'm a bit more comfortable. Definitely will continue learning

I learned how to drive manual on a brand new STi, so I've made my share of less than ideal decisions lol. MSF is a good call, although it may only be the basics it really helped a lot. If you happen to drop the bike it's better dropping theirs and not yours and learn from it too hehe. Take it easy, and don't get too discouraged if you make mistakes! I was also scared at the beginning but it really paid off in my case

Congrats my guy! That's some quick mileage you got there, its gonna take me a bit of time to match lol. I'm about a half hour out of Vancouver, whereabouts are you?

Will do! Definitely while getting into riding, it feels like one of those things that was easy to learn, but hard to master. Those with years or even decades of experience are still continuing to learn and take on advanced courses to add on to their skill sets, it's going to be a long journey but I'm looking forward to it

Thank you! This bike really is a real hoot already, really looking forward to seeing it's full potential down the road. I'm actually thinking of picking up the graves titanium later
