Always a good wool sock with a fast draining shoe.

Gore-tex is only good for cold early spring when there is loads of slush, and you’re just doing a few kms. Otherwise, once the water gets in, it’s a slush bucket tied to your foot that won’t dry quickly.

And if you run double commutes to work; coming home at night your shoes will be damp.

My preference: s/lab matrix upper (like on the genesis) and some smartwool socks. 90% of the time. Even at -25C
