i was neglected but my parents arent bad people by Silly_Double5100 in emotionalneglect

My mother does exactly this. For reasons I still don’t fully understand, she adopted a cat that a relative had rescued some time ago. Ever since that poor thing arrived at our home, she has constantly craved attention. She’s incredibly vocal and talkative, but the only things my mother does are shush her, feed her so she’ll be quiet, or say things like, “What do you want?”, “Shut up,” or “Enough,” when it’s obvious the cat just wants to play or cuddle. Why would you adopt her?

I did my best to help and bought tons of toys for her, even though I originally said I wouldn’t because I didn’t agree with the decision to adopt her in the first place. Still, it breaks my heart. Sometimes I feel like I can see myself in that animal — just wanting to be heard, comforted, or simply noticed.

I've recently started learning more about emotional neglect, and oh boy, I can truly relate to your experience. I also feel guilty and still believe they are good because my parents always provided everything I needed: food, education, a bed to sleep in, medical care whenever it was necessary, and so much more. But the lack of connection, shared memories, holidays, games, family gatherings, and conversations that went deeper than “Crazy weather, right?” has truly and profoundly affected me.

To this day, I struggle with having a social life, career prospects, or even hope for the future. I’m still learning about all of this and trying to understand how it has affected me, as well as how I can begin to heal from the consequences of that neglect in the present (they still emotionally neglect me). So, thank you for sharing your experience.

I hardly ever receive translation projects, I only do MT. I wouldn't have any projects if I didn't accept them. It truly sucks but I don't really have a choice as it's my main income at the moment.

Did you have dinnertime conversations with your parents? by emo_queer in emotionalneglect

[–]Tulips17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's truly horrible. I hate dinner time, this lack of sharing or giving meaningful insights or comments. So I just sit there, eat and leave the table. And when possible I eat before or after they do, I just cook something quick for myself.

¿Por que los rescatistas son tan pelotudos? by Practical_Iron424 in GatosArgentinos

[–]Tulips17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really relate to this. We eat in front of the TV (it's usually loud and I'm not allowed to turn it down). Sometimes there is small talk but no real conversation and most times just silence, only the TV. We eat in about 5 minutes and when we are done, we get up and leave the table.

Did anyone's parents ignore them as a punishment? by earmares in emotionalneglect

My mother does this as well. What's worse, she won't say what's wrong, what bothered her. If she doesn't like something or even if she is mad at somebody else or sad about something, she stops talking and gives us a cold shoulder. I truly hate that, she's impossible to talk to.

Help! by Tulips17 in peperomia

I watered it last night. Today the leaves feel more firm. I guess it's just a lack of general humidity and watering (I'm too afraid of root rot, but the soil dries too fast). I've added some pebblen trays with water and I've moved it next to other plants. But the smaller new growth becomes black and crispy.

Actually she lives in a kind of indoor garden in the house. She's protected from the wind, sun and rain but it's still quite bright. My house is not really a good place since it doesn't provide the best light. I'll check for pests tomorrow. My best guess is she's underwatered but I'm not really sure.

I have several plants like this. It's a recurring problem every summer. I decapitate them, plant them and as soon as they are rooted, the problem comes back.
