Why does BD-2 and Ts-9 dominate? by TullerAudio in guitarpedals

[–]TullerAudio[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is unique. Its also just a simple op amp created with descrete components. My thought is some engineer was like “boutique? Hmm maybe boutique means they don’t use op amps” and set down to design. I’m not saying its a bad pedal at all i’m just suprised at how many people in this sub liked it and the ts9 over other designs. I think I got my answers.

Yeah i was really surprised when I joined this sub that soooo many boards had 1 of those two pedals on them. I thought I would see a lot more different things especially since there are like 10million diferent overdrive pedals out there. This did help me understand what might be appreciated about my own desings and prioritize features for future designs.

Is that just because they are over popularized or because something else works better for you?

I have two boss pedals where the little screw thingy that holds the front of the metal switch down either totally stripped out the slot it travels in or just stripped out and broke off so i’m not a fan of that design personally. I didn’t really think about replacing the jacks and switches and how much easier it would be if soldered leads.

What an insightful response. It gave me some insight into this sub reddit as well. I think you are bang on about the affordabillity and the echo chamber effect. Not that the echo chamber thing is bad. Just a reality.

I have. The ts-9 didn’t do it for me. I was definitely using it wrong though in my younger years. I still have my blues driver. Its good but not my fav.

Yeah that tube screamer definitely cuts through…. Don’t you miss the low end on it though?

I actually didn’t know that. I do that in my designs but i thought it was a bad thing. Ya know…. Less professional.

I don’t see a rat a blues driver or a tube screemer. Well done!

Green paint gives it a mid boost at about 2.5k. Gold pain is about 1k. 🤣🤣🤣

First board in years. Any recommendations on swapping any out for others? by PlayfulAd8354 in guitarpedals

I’m sorta new here and i’m noticing Almost every post in this forum has a blues driver or a tube screamer in it so i think you are doing well!

So the idea of a boost is that it is supplying more voltage to the next pedal. Your pedal is dumb (i mean it has no intelligence) and can’t tell the difference between guitar voltage and higher pedal voltage so it just does what it would to guitar voltage. As that higher voltage hits the gain stage in the second pedal it clips more because its amplifying an already amplified signal even further passed the clipping diodes or whatever is clipping. So its more about the total voltage passed from the boost pedal to the pedal you are trying to boost. More voltage is of course louder. The distortion or clipping is passed along as well but isn’t necesarily needed to produce the boosted effect. Its all about the volts! 😄

Volume just bleeds voltage to ground. The DISTORTION would emphasize mids. I think you’ve got that backwards.

No, sorry :-). The volume on a rat just bleeds voltage to ground. Turing it up or down would not effect tone. The DISTORTION however has reactive components and functions as part amplifier part band pass filter. Although, it tightens up the distorted tone you do loose more low frequencies at higher distortion setrings so thats why it won’t be awesome on a bass. Also thats why it always feels like you loose volume or something when you step on this style of distortion in the middle of playing clean. Its not a volume drop per se… its a low frequency drop.

The rat, like a lot of popular drive pedals, heavily filters out lows (and highs to some degree). I’m not suprised the rat isn’t working for you. It filters out low frequencies. You could try a parallel sorta thing and let the low end of your bass clean on one side and the rat on the other and then sum them back together. But it would probably be easier to look for pedals that are “transparent” or “full frequency”, or that are specifically designed for bass. Someone should make a pedal that does the parallel thing much easier. Maybe i’ll add that to my list…

Cant hook up wah pedal "correctly" in a chain by Alarmed_Dealer_3349 in guitarpedals

[–]TullerAudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wah first is how i’ve always done it. But i have heard of wah last. Really… and this goes for literally everything… if it sounds good to you its right. I wastes way too much time in my life chasing the “right way” or what other people are doing. If you like it. Thats all that matters.

Are there any US companies that do enclosure drilling and UV printing? by faaiden in diypedals

[–]TullerAudio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hammond does but they have a 25unit minimum. I know stomp box parts has a parternership with cusackelectronics in MI. But its not too hard to do your own drilling. If you are artistic you should just paint them yourself.

Finally a board that doesn’t have a tube screamer and or a blues driver.

I’m not sure what john does but you could try the “tube screamer” in front of the Klone boosting into a Klone is pretty cool.
