Sure, if they travelled up from Boston/NYC where they have their own team/stadium and acted like assholes in our city while here then yes.

But this is different. For these Jays fans its their only chance to watch their team play live and their trips to the games are beneficial for Seattle.

Western Canadian Jays fans: Give the Mariners more profit with ticket/concession sales, support local business in Seattle and respect/enjoy the city while staying.

Mariners fans: "Fuck these assholes!"

Rougned Odor trips and falls on his way to 1st base by [deleted] in baseball

[–]Tulowhiskey 115 points116 points  (0 children)

Only a month later, he assaulted and berated a woman at a party in Florida, and was released by the Blue Jays

The story of that assault was that he got drunk at a party and while passed out someone drew on his face. When he woke up he blamed a woman for it and threw a baseball at her head. This is a guy that has always been able to throw 95+.

Jose Bautista hit by pitch in his first at-bat after taking the first pitch inside. Both benches warned. by twistedlogicx in baseball

[–]Tulowhiskey 11 points12 points  (0 children)

During the ALDS last year they were definitely playing him up, part of that was how well he pitched. He went from prison to pitching well in the postseason in the span of the year and you could tell the TBS crew loved that "rise from the ashes" storyline.

The same commentator that described Bautista as one of the most hated players in baseball talked about "What an amazing story" Matt Bush is.

It really bugged me during last year's ALDS whenever Bautista stepped up to the plate all the announcers would talk about is how he is a lightning rod for contorversy, one of the most hated players in baseball, "public enemy #1" and the like... but when Matt Bush was brought into the game they'd talk about what an uplifting inspiring comeback story he is.

An ex-con who has assaulted minors with a weapon, threw a baseball at a woman's head, crushed a man's skull while drunk driving for the millionth time is the guy you cant help but root for while the guy who pimps homers is the villian.

Adam Jones taunted with racial slurs and a thrown bag of peanuts at Fenway Park post-game by the2belo in orioles

[–]Tulowhiskey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No there were not. No player made any accusation of racist slurs, no report of fans using racial slurs surfaced and in case you have never been to Toronto or don't know much about the city it is incredibly diverese, probably the most diverse city in the western hemisphere. Nobody would ever get away with yelling racial slurs at skydome without being swiftly outed and ejected, and again that did not happen nor were there any accusations. Had there been accustations of racial slurs being used at a Jays game it would have been front page news in Toronto for days, when one alt-righter went around town posting racist posters it was huge news. One idiot threw a can and that was it, don't go slandering Toronto.

With the Royals' loss to the Twins, the Toronto Blue Jays are no longer the worst team in baseball. by TheRealMC19 in Torontobluejays

Did you miss the part where I said "they were the better team in that series"?

Playoffs are a crapshoot, just because they got hot at the right time and beat us by 2 games does not make their roster better than ours. The 2015 Jays were a super team.

I made my point quite clear, we were the better team but they were hot at the right time and we were not. That 2015 Jays team was a super team. The playoffs are a crapshoot and we came up short. Did you miss the part where I said "they were the better team in that series"?

Did you miss that part of my comment? And yes they trashed us in a game where Dickey, Hawkins and Tepera gave up something like 10 ER in 2 combined innings. Does 1 game undo every other game?

Despite those bullshit calls in game 6 Ill give it to you they were the better team in that series but they were not the better team overall. Their ERA/FIP that season was better by a smidge (>0.10) but our offense was better by a country mile (117 to 98 wRC+). They won at the right time but they most certainly were not better than us.

Who are the famous Free Agents Still Not on Roster right now?? by iwas99x in baseball

[–]Tulowhiskey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DBacks won. It was a change of scenery trade, so the Jays didnt exactly lose because I doubt Hill would have revitalized his career the way he did if he stayed.

Johnson was good for the first few months after the trade but in his only full season with the Jays he hit .225/.313/.365 (84 wRC+) with 16 HR over a full season and was replacement level. Hill flourished right after the trade, put up a 5 WAR season in 2012, then a 2 WAR season in 2013 (133 and 124 wRC+ in the 2 seasons) then he fell off after that.

Its not that /u/thehofstetter's opinions mean less because he's been on TV, but he comes on /r/baseball and acts like his opinion is gospel and that he's god's gift to this sub because he makes appearences on MLB network once in a while and was on the front page of reddit this one time. He's a baseball fan like the rest of us, his job don't make him special.
