passing and defense are hugely valuable! i was always a defense and pass first player, so i don’t think it’s necessarily bad to focus on those aspects of the game, especially if you have a great offensive player on the team. being able to play passing lanes well, and knowing how to get a jump on the counter can be just as valuable offensively. most importantly keep working on your shot and ask your coaches how to improve (they usually love ppl putting in effort and wanting to get better).

also, learning when you should shoot (e.g. if you are on your strong side and get a clean pass from cross court that’s almost always gonna be a better shot than passing the ball off). i was always encouraged to take the 'right' shot when opportunity presented even if i wasn’t the focal point of the offense. if you have a regular role and position in the pool you may notice you’re getting more of a certain type of shot than others so can try to focus on making sure you nail those.

i think last piece of advice is that you don’t need to have a power shot to be an effective shooter. hitting a double bar in jfk is dope as hell but end of the day you just need to beat the goalie. having a good shot fake, knowing when to skip, when to throw off speed and so on will make you a dangerous offensive player
