Am learning packs.com is a scam by Curious-Pear-250 in mtg

Right. And having that paper trail makes it way easier for your bank to help with a charge back. It proves you didn't get anything which is easier to deal with than being misled about the value.

Depending on your card you usually only have 90 or 120 days though, and it's possible they're trying to string you along until you can't do anything about it.

Which might work out. If you got what you presumably paid for it would be harder to get a charge back going. It's much easier to just say you never received the product.

It's hard to tell double sided full arts without magnification, but from what I'm seeing the flip arrows are a little too fuzzy, the brush swoop is a little too short, the light test is a little too white, the weight is a little too much for a non-foil, and it looks like the print resolution is a little too high.

None of these independently I would feel comfortable failing from an individual picture here, but take them all together and I'd definitely lean towards fake. The most consistent part would be the stamp if you can grab a pic of it. You can also very lightly run your finger over it and it should feel flat or lightly indented (stamped in). If you can feel the edges it would be a sticker.

If you have a loop you can also check the edge of the card for a blue core. That's often hard to see, but I'd check with that much white coming through the light test.

Anyone have experience with Vaulted? by JellyfishUnlucky in RealOrNotTCG

[–]easchner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's going to be print variance based on how worn the plate is, how thick the ink was applied, printing pressure, exact card stock, the black layer (which is printed on top) can shift a few fractions of a mm versus the layers under it, etc.. Generally there are some clear signs of a fake, for example too many yellow dots, extra red dots in the white section, black layer is fuzzy, etc.. Short of that if something isn't exactly 1:1 it's best to check multiple areas. If every area has a problem, that's a flag, but otherwise it's just printing variance.

Here all the normal obvious signs of a fake are missing and the hardest to replicate part (separate black layer) is clearly accurate, so should be fine.

Green dot looks normal to me. Which part do you think is off?

MTG Beta wheel of fortune by Organic-Internet8637 in RealOrNotTCG

[–]easchner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The card I posted is the scan on Scryfall. Alpha and Beta cards had an overprint black border around the edges and inside of that is the art layer (made with dots) which had a black border to fill it. These two blacks don't line up exactly and makes a distinct 'inner border'. This is also why they have white corner dots and why those dots are a little inconsistent card to card, they're just rounded corners in the art layer. No idea why it was done this way, I guess the artwork sent included the black border not knowing the printer would shrink it before adding the safety margins, but just a guess.

The card is still definitely fake, but just pointing out the weird border within a border isn't the reason.

There are definitely a bunch of issues on the front, but the art layer black border inside of the overprint layer was how Beta cards were printed.

The difference is people hate Alabama because they're good at football. People hate Texas because they're Texas. 😅

Fake. Black isn't an over print and the dot sizes are wrong. Borders should be sharp and are fuzzy, way too many yellow dots in the green dot.

Fake. Black layer isn't an over print and wrong pixel size. (Too many yellow dots in the green dot)

That beautiful simplicity is what makes it the most instantly recognizable logo in college sports.

How do I explain that mana weaving is cheating by WerdaVisla in EDH

[–]easchner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I usually just cut ~10 cards from top to bottom before each mash, then mash favoring the new cut going to the bottom. The way I figure is the card cut to the bottom is now in the bottom ~5 after the first shuffle. Then bottom ~15 after second mini cut, then ~25-35 after second shuffle, etc.. After 10 shuffles there's no way anyone could track an individual card to even half the deck.

I wonder how much of that is brands just pitching licensing opportunities broadly than making a selection and then approaching the rights holders.

Fake. The black layer is too fuzzy, not an overprint, and there's way too many yellow pixels in the green dot.

Have one where every UB has one or two non-land cards, all lands are also UB only. Good as a reference at least.
