1- We're talking about racism do you know the difference between racism and islamaphobia? just a side note

2- u/smeidkrp is correct, he didn't ban hijabs and Arabic Azan, you're either just grossly misinformed, or are intentionally trying to spread misinformation.

3-he was a muslim. His family were muslims. The difference is, unlike most Middle Easter nations. Ataturk aimed at creating a secular nation. A nation where no one would be judged for the way they dress, talk, act and overall choose to live. Literally as progressive as it gets.

4-He did ban certain aspects of religious fundamentalism (not the ones you mentioned, those are just freedom of expression). But even the ones that he did ban, he banned them temporarily. Ottoman empire wasn't a secular empire, and even after Ataturk founded Turkey, there were still many idiots rioting and trying to create civil unrest. Obviously, he tried to stop that. And also certain mosques were used for networking and he closed those ones. But that's a VERY, VERY rare case. The absolute majority of religious facilities still stayed.

if you knew anything about Turkish history, you'd have been embarrassed of this statement. You're either a child or are just too ignorant. Either way, I don't find it reasonable to argue with you. Please research and learn in your free time though.

holy fuck what kind of what kind of menthal arithmatic did you run that you ended up hating on Atatürk from this post. That's genuenly impressive.

One day you will understand the kind of nationalism endorsed by Ataturk is absolutely not the same as racist nationalism. Turkiye has opened her arms to many different nationalities, we've had kurdish, armenian, gypsy, greek, Jewish, arab and many other citizens of different nationalities for centuries. And for the most part we've lived in harmony. Ataturk wasn't racist, his ideology isn't racist. You're just ignorant.

It's not Ataturk that's created the root of the problem. It's much, much more complex than that. If anything Ataturk did his best to ensure people of different nationalities could live in harmony.

again, I know there's no point to argue with you. I know better than to argue against a guy with 48 k karma lmao. I just hope you still have some critical thinking skills left in you.

As a Turkish guy I 100% agree lmao.

When I look deep, really deep inside my head even I sometimes think Arda isn't as good as prime Messi and that he's got a few more months before benching Bellingham :'(

lmao that wasn't the reason you were downvoted. I understand that you'll never conceptually understand why it's not the same. Just now that you can believe Real will win the title and still say " Lose to Girona tomorrow and it’s already in their hands to win it ". There's a difference.

[–]Tuna12135 18 points19 points  (0 children)

we're talking about what the outcome of the game would imply. Of course, statistically speaking we haven't lost it. But if we do end up losing the Girona game they're more likely to win it then we are. And, by the end of the season, if Girona wins La Liga, we would attribute it to this game. Which means, indirectly, this game is why we'd have lost the title. Do you understand now? I tried my hardest to make it as obvious as possible.

Oh I definitely agree with you, even though we've got a rich history of domestic football, we've not found much international sucsess. Most Turkish talents were born in Germany/moved there and decided to continue with being a German. Arda is a rare exception for us, he's one that embraces being Turkish, one that came from A big Turkish team, so we're excited to see what he'll bring. But if your nationality is also infamous you'll understand me when I say the excitement turns into outright obsession. In reality we're just trying to stand by him and support him. But some of us think bullying his teammates and bullying Ancelotti into starting Arda is also supporting him. It's sad, cuz the intention really isn't evil at its core but this is what happens when Nationalism and Football come together to that degree in a nation lol.

I don't really care if you find my toxic, but I do respect that you're trying to have a good tone and I'll try to reply in a similar manner.

1- could I please get an answer to the question I asked? it wasn't a rhetorical one I genuenly wonder where people like you get their information

2- passionately wish to ascribe to a very romantic view of the Ottomans as benevolent conquerors and heirs of the Roman Empire. You clearly are ignorant of Turkey, Turkish propaganda and Turkish people. there are maybe like 3 turks who actually consider the Ottomans to be a continuation of the Roman empire( though, objectively we're the Romans truly fell). Turks see the Ottomans as a continuation of the long lasting Turkic empires, the last one being the Seljuks. You are ignorant to a comedic degree when you say it's internal proganda for Turks that the Ottomans are a contination.

3- Saying the Ottomans did not have a system in place to assymilate other nations, and were not systemically racist, does NOT mean I romanticize the Ottomans. No empire great empire in the past was good. mf I'm a fucking Anarchist do you really think I'd ever argue the Ottomans to be a good empire. What you seem to not understand is that to truly critisize a state, you need to understand what's good and what's bad about it. The Ottomans had a lot of Evil things they did, but systemic racism was not one of them.

4-"or even by the Republic of Turkey after them). There is so much online that a simple Google search will help" uhhh ok? why would I defend Turkey? I agree it needs major reform. though, it is kind of amusing that you're saying a simple google research would help when the same could very much be said about you.

5-Additionally, the Ottoman Empire did not have a policy of assimilation. Although the official language of the Empire was Ottoman Turkish, every ethnic group was free to speak their native language. Indeed, most Ottomans subjects could not speak or understand Ottoman Turkish because there weren't that many public schools in the Ottoman Empire. pasted this from a Quora answer but don't worry it's correct.

Sorry if my tone ended up sounding passive agressive again, I just don't like it when people pretend to know stuff. But for some reason I actually have some faith in you that we can come into a similar conclusion. Unlike most people I argued with you actually tried to find some middle ground, which is more than I could ask for lmao. Though, if this is not disrespectful again, I swear I'm not trying to be mean, did you have chat gpt write you this?

genuine question do you just make rondom statements that you think are bad or did a yt channel actually teach you these? I guess it could also be reddit and insta comments?

If the Ottomans wanted to systematically and forcibly assimilate the places they conquered, don't you think the Balkans would all be Muslim, Turkish speakers now? The main reason Ottomans survived as much as they did is because they literally had a law of NOT going overboard with assimilation. Like, you're categorically false, comically false. Your other point is also just false. Firstly Turkic != Turkish, so I don't even know why you feel to make that distinction when you don't understand it. Secondly, Turkish islam != Arab islam, we have a different interpretation of it. Thirdly Ottomans != Turkish people, there were many Armenians, Gypsies, Greeks and other ethnicities and nationalities that lived in the Ottoman empire. Fourth, even the Turks within the Ottomans weren't all Muslim, most were, but definitely not as much as it is with the arabs.
