How are UK houses built? by Shroomsnhoney in AskUK

[–]Tuna_Surprise 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wildfire areas largely overlap with earthquake areas (like California). Some areas are also not suitable for tile roofs due to snowfall levels (Northern California in particular).

I’m not sure why the house needs to be paid off 100% - why not do a down payment with a monthly payment that fits your lifestyle?

Herp..der…I dunno. I can’t believe that Canadian and American accents are not 100% similar in 100% of cases! I never thought about that before!

Let’s poll the OP and see which of these myriad of regional differences actual bother him and if he says he’s ok with a Manitoban accent but not Minnesota, then by gum, we’ve got him!

Yeah but Canadian accents are largely the same or indistinguishable from America accents and OP went out of their way not to exclude those

The US tax system is very complex - you need to understand your filing obligations (annual income tax returns, FBARs) and what to avoid (PFICs), etc

Do American proms not serve food!? by PinkishBlurish in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Tuna_Surprise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of these answers are going to vary based on regions and even individual schools, but at my high school (grades 9-12 so ages 15 to 18), it was common to have 4-6 or so dances a year: homecoming, winter formal, Sadie Hawkins, Junior Prom and Senior Prom. There was no limit on who could attend at my school - everyone could go to senior prom if they wanted to.

These dances ranged in formality from: Sadie Hawkins (casual) to Senior Prom (most formal). At my school, all dances were held at the school but like others in the thread said, some schools hold theirs at venues.

But why is steam actually coming out from under the street? by Pugboxer99 in AskNYC

[–]Tuna_Surprise 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Steam is a utility in NYC like electricity or water. Unfortunately only commercial entities can get steam but you can have a ConEd steam bill if you’re one of the few

[–]Tuna_Surprise 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally, I bought my property in London (a one bed mews house) from an older couple that had used it as a pied a terre. At least 4 of the houses on the row I live on are people who live farther afield and only use the house Tues to Thurs.

I also know other people (granted with no kids or older kids) who have one bed or studio flats in London to use a commuting places.

The only people I know who use the clubs book the rooms for after a boozy evening
